Speaker Pelosi? Thanks, but no thanks »
Posted by: stephen-johnson 1 year, 11 months agoIf any conservatives - fiscal, religious or otherwise - believe that their interests would best be advanced by making Nancy Pelosi Speaker of the House, they are deluding themselves. Many, many conservatives are fed up with a Republican Congress that has become a victim of its own success. The leadership in Congress has lost touch with the Ameri

Oct. 20, 2006, 12:32 p.m.>"Can anyone imagine a Democratic House passing a tough border control bill?
Many Dems have been putting forth ideas and attacking the Republicans about this subject for years. Bought time the cons started doing something, too bad it will ineffectual yet cost a fortune.
> The Republican House did that this year.
Election year politics, and you`re proud of that??
>Can anyone imagine a Democratic House passing tax cuts?
While at war, when middle-class america is losing ground, 40M without healthcare coverage, education underfunde... agree. I think very few could imagine Dems handing such a huge give-away to the rich during times of such trouble and sacrifice.
Do you think the Dems would shirk on the tax burden and force our kids and grandkids to pay for what we spend now?
In credit card terms, do you think the Dems would offer us a deal where we can save $25 on our monthly bills if we accept a $25,000 increase in our balance (like the Reps have done)?
The Republicans continue to show how out of touch they are with average americans.

Oct. 21, 2006, 2:05 a.m.I would say you've better get used to the idea. We put up with Newt Gingrich until he got caught so republicans get prepared for Pelosi.

Oct. 20, 2006, 9:04 a.m.Great post Stephen. It really breaks it down as to why Conservatives need to get out an vote on Nov 7.

Oct. 20, 2006, 9:08 a.m.This deserves to get to the front page more than any other story that I've submitted.
The "I'm staying home to protest" voters drive me up the wall. They think that things won't get worse. They can - much worse, it fact

Oct. 20, 2006, 12:15 p.m.The Republicans in power don't truly represent the real conservaitves and that is why they will either stay home or vote for the Democrats. The Republicans have been intoxicated with the power of controlling all three branches of our government and they take for granted the voters they say they represent.

Oct. 20, 2006, 12:28 p.m.If the real conservatives are dissatisfied, they will stay home. Unless they had a lobotomy, they won't vote Democratic. The article explained why pretty clearly

Oct. 20, 2006, 2:32 p.m.Yeah. Amongst conservatives the 'I won't vote, that'll teachem' scenario is the most likely.

Oct. 20, 2006, 7:10 p.m.I'm a true conservative, not a republican, and I will not stay home...I will be there voting for almost every republican running for national office.
Can you imagine a democrat congress..."Sorry Mr. Bin Laden, we will admit you are supremely superior, please don't kill us for a few more years."
If you want to protect this country, vote republican!

Remember how the Republicans beyatched about the sky falling and the economy tanking if Clinton was elected and allowed to balance the budget? That was right before the longest period of growth since WWII and the only budget surpluses in contemporary american history. Just goest to show how much Republican naysayers know.

Oct. 20, 2006, 1:07 p.m.?? They weren't saying that.
They were warning us about Clinton's failure to reform entitlements and his defense cuts. About making budget plans that only work when the economy is at it's peak.
Have you every actually listened to what they said or are you operating on your stereotype of what you think they would have said?

Oct. 20, 2006, 1:19 p.m.Pelosi sounds like a potentially great Speaker to me. Are you people that much afraid of the other half of America?

Oct. 20, 2006, 1:25 p.m.How come the other half of the country routinely loses elections? You would think that they would be 50-50

StaticNexus
Oct. 20, 2006, 2 p.m.Why would anyone take that chance?
Because being solidified in power brings about complacency. It's no secret that Republicans have abandoned almost every priority they came into Congress with in 1994? Instead of passing term limits for Congress and shrinking the size of the government they've made it bigger, more complex and more hostile to the American people.
And what about fiscal responsibility? Forget it they've become the Party of Spend and don't tax. Virtually undoing the balanced budget and vastly increasing the national debt.
Why would anyone take that chance?
Because Democracy requires change. A healthy democracy is one where many voices participate in the political process. Not one behemoth, homogeneous political machine.
For the sake of America its time for political change and more than that it's time for Partisan hackery to end.

Oct. 20, 2006, 2:32 p.m.Well to date Pelosi has not been convicted of crime and forced to give up a house leadership position like Delay. She has not protected a child abuser as Hastert did with Foley.
Sounds to me that with any faults she may have she sure would be a breath of fresh air in the corrupted halls of house leadership over the past few years.
Oh and lest not forget that prior to that we had a wonderful republican speaker who waited until his wife was in the hospital with a life threatening condition before he sprung a divorce on her. These guys are so wonderful I would rather have my terrier in charge. At least he is not that immoral nor is Pelosi.

Oct. 20, 2006, 3:48 p.m.oh how i LOVE how vain republicans are. YOU CAN'T GET THE JOB DONE. it's been proven. There is a reason why demos we're in power for so long. Republicans had there chance, so what did they do....... double the national debt in six years and fight an unjust war. Again, republicans had a chance to do what ever the hell they wanted, and now we see what is done when they control all branches of government at the federal level.

Oct. 20, 2006, 6:38 p.m.Look at the possible line of succession:
Dick Cheney, then Pelosi (if dems win the house) and then Byrd(if dems win the senate and if he passes it up, Ted Kennedy)
If this doesn't get Conservatives and Republicans to the polls in droves, nothing will.
