OpEd: Saddam was Right and Bush was Wrong »
Posted by: populist 1 year, 8 months agoThink about it. It was the Bush administration and not Saddam that turned out to be lying about WMDs. As we all know now, there weren't any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Amazingly enough, it was Saddam who was telling the truth from the very beginning. Bush was the one who lied to the whole world.

Dec. 29, 2006, 9:25 p.m.Hundreds of WMDs found in Iraq: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,200499,00.html
"Since 2003, coalition forces have recovered approximately 500 weapons munitions which contain degraded mustard or sarin nerve agent. Despite many efforts to locate and destroy Iraq's pre-Gulf War chemical munitions, filled and unfilled pre-Gulf War chemical munitions are assessed to still exist."

Dec. 29, 2006, 9:31 p.m.could easily come up with endless articles that show that there were absolutely no WMDs in Iraq - many from very reputable sources, experts and the like. Here's a few to counter the fox news propaganda:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3718150.stm
http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/01/12/wmd.search/
http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2006Aug07/0,4670,Iraq
"The reality in this case is that after a 16-month, $900-million-plus investigation, the U.S. weapons hunters known as the Iraq Survey Group declared that Iraq had dismantled its chemical, biological and nuclear arms programs in 1991 under U.N. oversight. That finding in 2004 reaffirmed the work of U.N. inspectors who in 2002-03 found no trace of banned arsenals in Iraq."

Dec. 29, 2006, 10:19 p.m.I can't believe that you promoted this absolute propaganda!!!
Just read this piece on FoxNews.com
"Pentagon and outside experts stressed that these abandoned shells, many found in ones and twos, were 15 years old or more, their chemical contents were degraded, and they were unusable as artillery ordnance."
"Since the 1990s, such"orphan"munitions, from among 160,000 made by Iraq and destroyed, have turned up on old battlefields and elsewhere in Iraq, ex-inspectors say. In other words, this was no surprise."

Stop pushing the same old lies!

Dec. 29, 2006, 10:57 p.m.Those 500 'munitions' were barrels of DEGRADED sarin or mustard gas. They were dated all they way back to 1991 and were so degraded that they were USELESS.
Sorry, NO WMDs in Iraq ... your OWN Senate investigations and reports documents this.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senate_Report_of_Pre-
Two volumes of the phase II report were released on September 8, 2006: "Postwar Findings about Iraq's WMD Programs and Links to Terrorism and How they Compare with Prewar Assessments" and "The Use by the Intelligence Community of Information Provided by the Iraqi National Congress." The conclusions of these reports were that there was no prewar evidence that Saddam was building weapons of mass destruction and there was no evidence that Saddam had links to al-Qaeda.

Another example demonstrating the findings of a University of Maryland study that found that Fox News produces misinformed viewers.
"Those who primarily watch Fox News are significantly more likely to have misperceptions-- that evidence of links between Iraq and al Qaeda have been found, 22% that weapons of mass destruction have been found in Iraq, and 25% that world public opinion favored the US going to war with Iraq--while those who primarily listen to NPR or watch PBS are significantly less likely."

Jan. 1, 2007, 5:28 p.m.One more piece of wood to the logical fire that VB, Bubba and the other logical debaters have started:
DHalko ...an excerpt from the story YOU submitted...."Since mid-1996, Ekeus has said he remains concerned that Iraq might still be importing proscribed materials, that it is concealing banned weapons and components, and that it is obstructing UNSCOM's work." This report that you turned in was from 1996. Our inspectors from USAREUR downrange knew that Saddam no longer put money into the program, he was hoarding ...after Iraqi Freedom, we found it, as you may recall. Also, Husayn Kamil who was in charge, later recanted his statements, went back to Iraq and was subsequently executed by Saddam. In summary, the conclusion of the report as Ekus and Co made, turned out to be faulty. The disagreement within the teams was confirmed with the USAREUR side of the house (our side) coming out the victors ...as time has shown.

Jan. 5, 2007, 9:02 a.m.I believe, the reality is, our President deceived the American public and the world community into approving the removal of Saddam because Saddam threatened Bush's father, years ago. I Think,Saddam was a unconscienable leader who committed atrocities beyond imagination his actions, were so terrible.
I think American Leadership supported Saddam for years, knowing full well what a dispicible Leader he was. Than, they turned on him and he became the enemy. I don't think Saddam ever changed, U.S. politics did !

Dec. 29, 2006, 10:51 p.m.One thing you have to note is that Iraq had mass amounts of chemical weapons for over a decade. Then in a few months tome had none. No record for them being destroyed but just poof.. gone.
Almost the entire UN agreed that they did have weapons. That was never the debate to begin with. The debate was how it should be handled.
Saddam was a war criminal who committed serious crimes and deserved to be punished no matter what the WMD proved.
But then.. that is obvious if you are inclined enough to pay atleast a tiny bit about what has been happening over the last 30 years in Iraq.. And not just listen to some Michael Moore movie...

Dec. 29, 2006, 11:11 p.m.and, as the facts show, Saddam got much of those weapons (the ones he admitted having) right from the good ole US of A. And, his nuclear scientists were trained as US nuclear facilities in Berkeley, amongst other places.
So, we give him the weapons. Then claim he shouldn't have them.....
Saddam may have commited serious crimes, but so have American presidents - who are responsible for potentially 2 million Iraqi deaths.
war crimes indeed!
sounds like they created a reason to go to war to me.
