Bush Has Quietly Tripled Aid to Africa »
Posted by: okitech 1 year, 9 months agoPresident Bush's legacy is sure to be defined by his wielding of U.S. military power in Afghanistan and Iraq, but there is another, much softer and less-noticed effort by his administration in foreign affairs: a dramatic increase in U.S. aid to Africa.

Dec. 31, 2006, 8:50 a.m.ok yeah lets see here, $16.5billion for Africa over bush's 6 years. That equals about 3 weeks worth of "The war on terror". or about 1 week of our average military budget at home and abroad.
This would be like if i gave a homeless person 3 pennies and some pocket lint by comparison.

Dec. 31, 2006, 3:58 p.m.All right! As much as I despise the worthless, stupid, self-serving little pimp....I must give him and his administration some points on this commendable action.
So, the score now stands at 5 points for....and 5678 points against this dishonorable pack of thieves and liars.

Dec. 31, 2006, 9:49 p.m.Are the Africans driving tank, cars, jeeps, Hummers, etc.? Are they rebuilding a whole country? do the Africans need body armor and all the other ****** that our soldiers need? It's obvious to thinking human beings that Africa isn't Iraq or Afghanistan. So why have some stupid comparison that means nothing...
Btw, you people that say we only do things because we want kickback, well your exactly right. It's called politics and every politician does it. And if you haven't already noticed, it's not only happening in Africa, it's happening right in front of your face. Why do big company's contribute to any political party? Because they want a kickback. I hate the ignorance from the people on Netscape because there is no thought in your arguments, just blame and hatred. Get over it. Your life will be much more interesting.
Oh ya, and if we are only in it for the oil, well it's all your fault. You all drive cars, use plastic(oil based product) and use other oil based products. Stop bitchin

Dec. 31, 2006, 1:05 p.m.I am pleased to see that the Bush admin has been increasing aid to Africa. But, as the article notes, it is not totally 'unconditional' aid, and the white house apparently thinks that there will be return on that 'investment' - for example, OIL (what a surprise ... not).
-

Locky12
Dec. 31, 2006, 2:23 p.m.Bubba2, what you may not realize is that much of Africa is run by absolute savages. The ruling people of the different provinces collect taxes and what-not for THEMSELVES. You think there's a civil service system? You think that money goes for schools, roads, hospitals, sanitation? THEY"RE SAVAGES!
If we gave them unconditional monies, the ruling family would get it for themselves and the poorest of the poor would still get nothing and starve.
Besides, it's in our best interests to try to stabilize parts of Africa because those militant Islamists are trying to make a foothold anywhere they can!

Dec. 31, 2006, 5:09 p.m.Too bad we didn't have conditions on the money we gave to residents after Katrina. A huge portion of the money designated to purchase food and water, and absolute needs went on tattoos, drugs, alcohol, gambling, big screen TV's, and other worthless junk. But that's different. Bush was still wrong for giving billions of dollars at home as he is wrong for giving billions of dollars to hungry straving nations. For most of you here who bash Bush on this issue, why not tell us what he should have done. And then follow that up with proof of how YOU have already been trying to do what you have suggested.

Dec. 31, 2006, 10:43 p.m.No deal is made without strings attached...period! The continent Africa has been raped and pillaged for centuries. Africa is not important until Africa IS important - for natural resources and arms deals.

Dec. 31, 2006, 2:19 p.m.While I might applaud the bushies for actually doing something to help someone that is not republican I would like to see some corroboration of this story. There have been more than a few propaganda pieces put out as news in recent years.

Dec. 31, 2006, 3:15 p.m.This can only highlight the shameful neglect of Africa by the Democrats led by Clinton. Not only were they miserly with aid (less than 1/3 current level) they also stood by and allowed the genocide in Rwanda to occur.

Dec. 31, 2006, 10:01 p.m.Slate- I am glad this administration gave a little aid to Africa. All the previous corporate pimps should have done alot more. $4 billion a year is not much. Bush gave $8 billion of our revenues to the oil people, and they need none. Its good Bush increased aid but ,you must admit, it was for power and profit-see all the stipulations attached! Still its better than not giving!!

Dec. 31, 2006, 3:17 p.m.What do people want out of Bush? Everyone blasts him for Iraq and when he finally tries to do something good with the US budget people are ******ed and choose to blast him when he helps people who really need it. Not only that, but he did it QUIETLY. this was not some last minute effort on his part to save his presidency.

Dec. 31, 2006, 3:22 p.m.Now, I am not a fan of the President so I am probably going to get hit from both sides in this discussion.
The article did not seem to be a propaganda message that said how great the President was; in fact, it seemed quite balanced pointing out that there could be some motives in addition to the humanitarian aspects of increased aid.
I suppose that we should just cut the aid back since it is not enough. (sarcasm)

Dec. 31, 2006, 4:13 p.m.((helping the people that f@cked the monkeys in africa that gave us aids))
Man do you think any guy would put his favorite tool any where near one of those crazy little buggers?
As far as I've heard, the best guess on the genesis of aids was that it was due to unsanitary hunting practices involving blood. I don't know about that for sure, but I do know that even if you got a monkey drunk first, it would be a dicey and withering proposition...

Dec. 31, 2006, 3:33 p.m.I'm kind of apalled that we're about to enter a new year with people like you in the world. In case you haven't noticed we are living in a global community now. Our economy depends on what is going on around the world. Not only that, but you don't understand the sort of solutions that you offer. Do you even have a clue how much money it would cost to send all of the immigrants back to their own countries? Trillions of dollars. And I don't mean two or three trillion. We're talking 10 or 20 trillion dollars just to have enough man power and resources to round them up and send them home. If you are going to make outlandish claims at least don't be ignorant and think them through.

Dec. 31, 2006, 4:29 p.m.Does God send down unlimited funds to the U.S. government? Nope, they get it from saps like me. Then I have to hear from happy folks, who pay little or no tax, that South Africa, New Aw'luns, Zimbabwe and every other damn place isn't gettin' enough of my money. It's real easy to give away someone else's money.

Dec. 31, 2006, 5:44 p.m.Funny you condemn people who aren't empowered to do a damn thing about their circumstances....yet not a word about Haliburton, or the oil companies, or any other hot shot bunch of wealthy people ripping off your 'tax dollars.'

Dec. 31, 2006, 4:36 p.m.Everything is suspect and this aid certainly is .....but at least its a step in the right direction. By the way for whoever the sick puppy was that mentioned the spread of aids as a reason why not to send aid to Africa AIDS was spread from animals to humans in a variety of ways. The process is called zooinosis although Im obviously not sure of the spelling it is how all "new" diseases spread.
I bet some of it had to with starving people eating the primates that originally carried it. Just a thought.

Dec. 31, 2006, 5:23 p.m.Well, I'm surprised this story has gotten out. Usually the nazi liberal media suppresses this, in their communist aspirations, and to continue the hate mongering. Well, I hope it's enough to help Africa. The way things are going it won't surprise me when Africa becomes a continent of lions, tigers, zebras and all other life indigenous to that continent and devoid of all humans.

Dec. 31, 2006, 5:33 p.m.I still don't get what you cannot understand about a global community. Just look at India, it is becoming a technological giant at an exponential rate. If we don't become more active in the global community then we are quickly going to be overshadowed by Japan, India, and China. Ignoring things at home will be the least of our worries.

Dec. 31, 2006, 5:43 p.m.wow, I hope someone blocks and bans jetsfan, some of the stuff he said was horrid, how dare you diminish a human life like that how dare you think America is such a great country that it doesn't have faults, its people like you who destroy our nation with your pro-america gunk, yeah funds should be sent here but we live in the world. YOU EVER HEAR THE PHRASE no man is an island? LEARN IT America is not its own planet, we are not on our own, everybody depends on everyone else, why don't you just dissappear into the rocky's with all the remaining backwards fools who think america can be isolationist YEAH that's right I said it, isolationist

Dec. 31, 2006, 5:49 p.m.And Bobcat, guess what, if the media were nazi liberals? that's quite a conundrum, since you also seem to think that Jewish people would run the media, so are you calling Jewish people nazi's now? I think you owe them an apology, quickly before I find authorization to draft you into Iraq as punishment for your bull****
