Posted by: Beeboppin71 1 year, 7 months agoFebruary 7, 2007 -- President Bush Monday survived the first attempt by congressional Dem ocrats to undermine the U.S. mission to Iraq - a bid to declare "no confidence" in his ongoing troop surge. So far, so good.

What are the Democrats trying to do? Where is there leadership? If they now disapprove of the war, and the way it is being Commanded, defund it. They promised to take charge, end the war, bring home the troops, tax the rich, tax the oil companies, and Impeach the President. They can't even get an increased minimum wage passed. Were they lying, or are they just totally inept? They have 21 months to prove they can lead, and so far they have been a disaster. There is no reason to re elect them if they lied to get elected.

The Democrats barely have the majority in the Senate, especially with the one Senator still in the hospital recovering from brain surgery.
60 votes were needed to needed to begin debate on the resolution (stop the 'fillibuster').
The Dems needed some Republican help to get 60 votes. At least SEVEN Republicans who have publicly OPPOSED Bush's troop "surge" voted AGAINST stopping the fillibuster.
Oh ... and its been JUST over a month since the Democrats took the majority in Congress. I guess YOU think they should have EVERYTHING "fixed" in ONE MONTH? Get a grip ...
And the minimum wage has been voted on in both houses. The bill is NOT the same in each house so a committee from each house has to get together and come up with ONE version of the minimum wage bill.

They just can't seem to get enough votes from the other side of the isle. I don't think that they should give up though.

Well, the doings in the 110th Senate are screwy, to say the LEAST.
Here is why.
The following is a list of Republican Senators who have publicly stated that they OPPOSE Bush's policy of sending MORE troops to Iraq. These SAME senators voted FOR blocking the debate on the anti-escalation resolution!
Even Senator Warner vote FOR the blcoking of the debate, and he CO-SPONSORED the resolution!
The list of dyslexic or flip-flopping Republicans --
John Warner
Chuck Hagel
Gordon Smith
John Sununu
Olympia Snowe
Sam Brownback
Arlen Specter
And the other 'twist' to this craziness -- Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) is listed as having opposed debate on Iraq. In fact, Reid changed his vote to "no" at the end of the vote simply as a procedural move so he could later move to reconsider the motion (i.e., revote) - a right reserved only for those voting with the majority.

Great Scott!!! What kind of games are these people playing? This is far worse than I thought. They're trying to create confusion with the general population. Mind blowing!!!! It's shocking that they think they can play these games with our soldiers lives on the line.

It's just so typical of the Republocrats!
"Senate GOP leaders were prepared to let the resolution move forward - if Democrats agreed to permit votes on two measures more supportive of the president. No deal, said the Dems."
They are all like little kids! My way or no way!
Democrats (and Republicans who side with them) just had their chance forcefully to oppose the war yet NO ONE voted against Gen. David Petraeus as chief U.S. commander in Iraq, or Adm. William Fallon - these officers not only endorse the troop surge, they're the ones charged with carrying out the policy.
If they are so against the troop surge, why did they vote FOR these officers???
Again - they were willing to spend hour after hour debating resolutions which would have no actual legal weight.
If they are serious defund the troops or shut up and work on something important - Social Security, Medicare etc

Don't make things up. The reps got most (if not all) of what they wanted. Most of the obstruction from the dems came over approving a few extremist judges.

aniokly KEEPS FORGETTING that the REPUBLICANS had the majority for the last SIX years and the Democrats had NO power. ONLY if any Republicans joined the Dems to block a vote or a debate did that happen, and it only happened a FEW times. The Republicans almost EVERYTHING they wanted over the last 6 years.

She also has a difficult time remembering that while she is off playing partisan politics, our soldiers are dying. Shameful.
