Posted by: populist 1 year, 6 months agoThe Presidential Election of 1796 was a water shed in American politics. George Washington historically declined to run for a third term. The two internal factions which had been struggling to gain the upper hand during his Presidency now developed into full-fledged, if Non Constitutional, political parties.

Unfortunately, the Federalists - who still maintain many Whig attributes, like theocratic dominionism - have been deposited in key positions of power by the Bush crime family. There are a few on the Supreme Court (Alito, Scalia, Roberts - I don't know about Thomas, but he's a wacko, anyway). These are the hard-core Repugnants who sound more like 18th Century Tories than anything alimentary and amicable to the principles of embodied by the Bill of Rights. They favor the so-called "Unitary Executive" and endowing that executive with "Sovereign Immunity". Talk about legislating from the bench.

Interesting that you castigate these judges for their belief that the constitution means what it says and that it is the final binding legal authority in this country. Why do you fear accepting the constitution as it was written or when necessary, using the mechanisms provided in the constitution to change it?

That's the whole point - Federalists like these "jurists" don't believe what the Constitution says, they believe in their own fantasies of what they think the Constitution should be. They make a mockery of the seperation of powers and the seperation of church and state; they regard the corporate entity as a person whose rights are superior to individuals; they're state supremacists where the state and elite corporate interests are almost undifferentiated.
Btw, I don't take Constitutional Amendments lightly, but I do see a need for only one. There should be a Constitutional Amendment providing for criminal investigations conducted by an Independent Special Prosecutor and Grand Jury with unlimited judicial subpoena power whenever the nation is attacked, retroactive to 9/11. The judicial subpoena power would only be limited to matters dispositive to the investigation - by unlimited I mean that government would not be able to interfere with the Prosecutor's investigation.

If Bush could, he would, usurp our Democratic values. He definitely is not a George Washington nor any role model for future generations to idolize or espect.
Do I abhor having to say these words and despise for a president, you bet. I haved seen many presidents come and go and for the first time in my life, I can honestly aver that King George needs to go ASAP by the Ameican electorate.

You're right, he is no George Washington. That is why his name is George Bush. It may interest you to know that there has only been one (1) President George Washington; I just checked the list of presidents.

"Sedition provided that anyone who criticized American government officials might be imprisoned. It's nearly identical twin, the Alien Act, authorized the Unconstitutional deportation of "dangerous" foreigners by the powers that be."
Interesting that the author chose the term "nearly identical twin". In what ways are they "identical"? There is nothing in the current Patriot Act that prohibits criticism of the U.S. government. If there were, many on these threads would doing their posting from a cell...including populist.
Also, sedition is and has always been illegal in this country. All one has to do is consider the Civil War to recognize that fact.
