The US Senate Thursday rejected a plan by the Democratic majority to set a timetable to withdraw US troops from Iraq by late March 2008, but agreed a separate resolution voicing support for the forces. The Senate rejected the measure formulated by the Democratic leadership by 50 votes to 48, in the latest showdown between Congress's Democratic leaders and Republican backers of President George W. Bush.

"The bill fell short of a simple majority and the 60-vote supermajority needed to overcome Republican procedural hurdles and pass out of the Senate."
Unless some of the Republicans are ready to stop rubber stamping every move this administration makes, then the Dems have no chance getting it in front of Bush anyway for the veto.
Maybe some of the Repubs ought to get some guts.

The truth is even though most of the reinforcements haven't arrived yet, we got the enemy on the run in Iraq, we are winning this war! We will win it! And that's why this bill went down in flames!
Redeploy is just another term for accept defeat. That would be wrongheaded and foolhardy. We can win this thing. We should support the troops FOR REAL and support the mission as well!

This congress works the way it has been for 40 years at least, everyone on every side is bought, sold, and it's regurgitated grandstanding spews out to gain support, but nothing ever happens except the "Agenda" that moves forward. It happens whether any of us like it or not, republican and democrat alike. The IMC and the Fed have us by the balls, and they have sunk their teeth into this country, and there will have to be a revolution to stop it I am afraid.
If you go against the IMC, the Fed, the Bankers and Bilderberg ideology, which are intertwined like a 50 year old vine, not only are you ruining your life and most assuredly the ones you love most in the world, but you may even be signing your own death sentence. We all know what happens to the good guys, and people in Washington are smart, they are not going to throw away everything they've worked for, just for us and what is right, it will never happen...

If we are ever going to have a chance, many important people need to go away, permanently.
The people in this country woke up to the fact the society we live in is fake, and the people we trusted turned out to be dishonest, and it took 9/11 to do that.
Now we expect our "Democrats" to just go after these thugs and show them the door?? I don't think so, because what goes on behind the fake walls, is something we'll never know about most likely, most would never be able to except it even if we had proof.
We can either do two things, stand up and fight for our country back, or be content with the scraps we are fed.
But sitting here bashing your elected officials for not being able to do anything about the power in this world, is a moot point.
This war automatically benefits any politician, as long as they aren't dying, they could care less, because they get more money. They try to make us think they want to end war, but we always know what the outcome will be anyway.

the truth is, thats just simply propoganda, they are merely standing down for the time being in the area where we are reinforcing... actually its quite sound tactics on their part. they have melted back into the populace- understand something, NO matter what Duh-byas supporters want, we WONT be there forever, and when we leave, they will be back....
when we leave and the bloodbath begins, neocons will try to blame it on the Dem pres who pulls us out.
the blame for Iraq always has, and always will, rest rightfully on the heads of the neocons who took us there.

"And in a separate move the US Senate voted 96-2 to pass a resolution expressing support for troops in Iraq.
That resolution, offered by Democratic Senator Patty Murray, states that Congress and the president have shared responsibility for troops in wartime and for their medical care when they are wounded.
The largely symbolic measure states that supporting the troops also means giving them proper training before they are deployed."
Why did to Republicans vote against supporting the troops. Why would 2 republican Senators not want us to fully train and equip the soldiers before they are deployed. Why would 2 republicans vote against caring for our troops that are wounded in combat. Bob Corker of Tennessee is one of the Senators who voted against supporting the Troops. Mr Corker as my Senator I demand to know why you vote against training and equiping our soldiers? Why do you vote against caring for our wounded?

"Several Democrats crossed party lines to join Republicans in opposition to the measure. Only one Republican, Senator Gordon Smith of Oregon, voted for the resolution, which was sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada."

I can't believe the stupidity of some people.
It's almost over, we got em on the run, damn near home!
Three years ago we were supposed to be at the end of this mess. Now you think it's almost over? It will be over when we kill everyone over there! Otherwise, they will always be our enemy.

When was is that Bush announced "Mission Accomplished"?
To be fair Bush didn't say what the mission was so it may have related to dressing himself that morning.

not necessarily true. Occupation creates the hate. I wouldn't go so far as to say we've got them on the run but I would say we're closer than before to some sort of favorable outcome. It would be great to get our sword out of the cut to let it mend. The war between the two militaries has been won by us. The war of ideologies however, is another story. I'm not sure what's right regarding how to improve the struggle for the Suni's and Shia to get along. Loot at these posts here on Netscape. In the greatest country in the world we have idiots making stupid comments on stuff they know nothing about (present company included) why would it not stand to reason that the same thing is happening in Iraq only some of these knuckle heads have IEDs....

They will be our enemy no matter what we do. Adaguy, I have notified the USMC that you wanna sign up so pack yer bags. :)
Like they say, its not over til its over, but in the case of Iraq it will never be over. Its been going on for centuries and the good ole US of A isn't gonna change it. I wish we could but it doesn't seem we have a plan to win, there may not be one.
But I am proud of our Prez, his popularity rating went up to a whopping 35 percent, wonder how long that will last.

Indeed it will be a good thing for them to fight among themselves as opposed to them fighting against us.
Remember, we could and should have had OBL in Afghanistan right at the start. But the traitors stopped, turned around and invaded Iraq. Ever since then they have been using him as their poster boy in their fear campaign.
Only cowards vote republican.

Congress just approved Petreaus in January to take over command and gave him another 21,000 troops to get the job done. Give the guy a friggin chance, fer cryin out loud.
And lets get something straight - a win in Iraq equals helping them set up some kind of stable gov't that recognizes the Kurds, Shiites, AND THE SUNNIS equally; getting their security force trained to the point where they can handle the dirty work; and getting our asses out of there ASAP.
It's not about defeating our enemy in Iraq. Its about cleaning up the mess we made as best we can and as fast as we can, and getting the hell out. Even Petreaus admits that.
We're going to be at war long after we're out of Iraq.

endofdays - Where is your reasoning coming from.
For four years we have been training Iraqi's to be soldiers and fight for their country. No surge will work, we have allready lost. Blame your idiot idol Bush, even you admit its a mess. You will never win, get the reality flowing within your mind. The only fighting those we trained in Iraq is against us or the other sect within Iraq at night.
The civil war is endless and nothing will change it until the theocracy backed by Iran or another dictator like Saddam emerges. Now do not think I am a liberal concerning attacks on America. Like Afghanistan where we were attacked from, any attack from an outside nation we will again destroy their infrastructure totally.

First off Nellie, you know me well enough to know Bush is not my idol. I have been repeatedly disappointed by his inability to effectively lead my country. So quit it.
As for my reasoning, it is coming mainly from the responsiblility we assumed when we took over Iraq. You will never hear me claim we can "win" the war there, and I am all for getting the hell out of there as soon as is humanly possible. But there are a few million civilians living in that country that can't leave, and will be left with whatever fate we abandon them to (a fate, remember, we created). We have to give their fledgling gov't one more chance to embrace legitimacy.
Surely you have to agree that Petreaus hasn't been given enough time to accomplish anything. To cut his legs out from under him now would be a mistake.

and this war isn't going to be as easy as "any attack from an outside nation we will again destroy their infrastructure totally".
Two thirds of the 9/11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. Richard Reid was from England. Zacharias Moussoui, French. There are known terrorist camps in Pakistan and all over northern Africa (not to mention still in Afghanistan). As you know, these nations (with the exception of some of those in N.Africa) are all allies.

Iraq had benefits that coincided with our efforts after 9/11.
1. anger the jihadis so much that they would be angry and confident enough to confront our standing military. Something along the lines of creating a battleground over there instead of over here.
2. unfinished business. If we had gotten Saddam's regime out the first time maybe the UN and the rest of the world wouldn't have pumped so much money into the wrong hands.
We triangulated our efforts and while it's not pretty, I generally agree with the focus. Whether Bush is an idiot or not doesn't really matter. It's the Washington think tanks that matter most and if you ask me, it's all related and it fit in the big plan.

Now do you get it? The Democrats started running for the 08 election as soon as they barely won in 06. They know they cannot stop the war. They lied to you. And they will keep lying to you through the 08 election cycle. If you go to Fox news website they have a roll call site that shows how your Senator voted. My senators are both Surrender Monkeys so I knew how they voted.

I love it when Democrats can't live up to their own propaganda.
Now Hillary is saying that we might need to keep some troops in Iraq even if we vote for their removal.
Who are these people trying to fool?
Mindless liberal fools who have no brains of their own?
It sure does look that way!!!
