Considering the way bush has gone off track with our political system, it's certainly no surprise there will be increased conflicts. I wouldn't want the democrats job with those Congressional CONS obstructing everything they try to do.

Since unionization is such a great thing, I suggest the that Democrat House and Senate members show their solidarity and allow their staffs to organize.

I know that some are paid, but how do you unionize volunteers and co-op students?
I'm sure they're free to, though.

IMHO and as a former DOD Officer, I believe that Government Employees should not be allowed to join any Union. There are just too many reasons against unions. One just has to know the history behind the reason unions were formed. It would be a paradox to have a need for unionization among government employees.
Besides you can't fire slaves anyways.... lol

It only becomes obstructionism when the Republicans do it, when the Democrats to it it's for the good of all. The Democrats are getting even for the past 6 years. Nothing ever changes in Washington, nothing so let's not get our panties in a twist with partisan bickering.

Come on, give me a break. The Republicans ruled for the last 6 years with the same slim majority. They exacerbated the "rule of 51%" as an alternative to good government. The Democrats were allowed exactly zero participation in government during that time. Frankly considering the abysmal results, some correction is necessary.
The Republicans managed to get us into a war that we can't win, which had nothing to do with any war on terror. The Republicans have made us and our world less secure, if you believe their own national intelligence estimate. The Republicans increased the national debt by about 45%. The Republicans allowed this President to run with absolutely no Congressional checks. Frankly that party simply blew it. We do need to challenge this President for his incompetent administration.
It is interesting that you characterized this as Democrats "getting even". I guess my mind doesn't work that way. Cheers.

Are you kidding? We've heard nothing but "obstructionists" from the Reps when the Dems blocked confirmation on a handful of judges, completely ignoring the fact that the Reps refused to confirm DOZENS of Clinton appointees.
ANY time over the past 6 years, even dating back to '94 when the Reps took over Congress, any time the Dems objected to legislation, the Reps screamed "OBSTRUCTIONISM!"

Try the past 14 years of Republican majority. The Republican have polarized this nation.

From the story:
"Democratic lawmakers expect to open new fronts against the president when they return from their spring recess, including politically risky efforts to quickly close the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; reinstate legal rights for terrorism suspects;"
jordan11:
I guess you agree that this is the way to get us back on track? If so, let's hope the CONS stay out of their way on this one.

The key word in this is "SUSPECTS." If you don't beleive that some of these terrorist suspects can be innocent, exactly how do you explain the multitude of CONVICTED death row inmates that have been FOUND INNOCENT over the past few years, and found that their basic rights were not respected?
