    Strange how Karl Rove used his non-White House RNC e-mail account for 95% of his correspondence, and yet only HIS e-mails from 2004 to 2005 got mysteriously deleted. For goodness sake, Rose Mary Woods only dumped 18-1/2 minutes of White House records.

    And since that Watergate debacle, in 1978 The Presidential Records Act was put in place requiring the preservation of all White House documents and correspondence. http://www.archives.gov/presidential-libraries/...

    But what is that to a President who has Signing Statements to rewrite the law and the Constitution? They work ex-post-facto. A signing statement tacked onto the next bill Bush doesn't veto should take care of everything.

        This in itself is evidence of a crime, deletion of these emails was a crime in itself. Attempting to get around the records act is also a crime. What else do we need before we begin investigations for impeachment.

              As far as your desire to turn this into a discusssion about how the Democrats can find a positive programme to get themselves elected that's all very fine. Its a very valid point.I think if you had said that at the beginning you'd have been understood.

              I also hope that the Democrats will be able to stop being reactive and create a positive programme BUT each process has its stages and the negative stuff needs to be dealt with first.

              As an outsider to the US system I'd like to see a fresh new party, uncluttered with the baggage of the current ones BUT what are the chances of that happening?? 0.

            I think what Jordan11 was trying to imply is that anyone who would continue to support a president who has knowingly and willingly broken the law shows complete contempt for the rule of law in our country and for the Constitution, which arguably would make them a traitor, if not simply someone who has no respect for American values or the rules of civilized society.

            Granted, this presupposes that Bush is in fact breaking the law, and to be fair that has not actually been proven. BUT, the actions of the administration and the evidence that has come out so far do STRONGLY suggest that several laws have been broken.

              Thanks Ryan. I can appreciate your comments...and we are in agreement on many of your points. If, and it must be proven, the law(s) have been broken, then I will be right there along side you, with a rope (figuratively) for President G.W. Bring on the proof.

              I do worry though, that the Dems are overplaying their hand. The strategy appears to be to hound and torment President G.W. with meaningless political ploys. (i.e. non-binding resolutions, illegal diplomacy with Syria, etc.)

              If The Dems lose the '08 elections, it will be due to the lack of leadership in the party. An incumbent party with a popularity poll number of less than 30 percent, should spell an easy victory. ...Caviat!! President Bush Sr., had a comfortable 70 percent approval rating less than a year before election time. An unknown named Bill Clinton became President.

      No, lets be honest here. It doesn't REALLY prove anything, it just STRONGLY suggests that the firings were political. The actual PROOF will be in the text of those missing communications.

      Semantics, I know, but I still feel its an important point. Everyone, even this administration, is innocent until proven guilty in this country. Or at least that's the way it should be.

    but the problem is that not all the emails were private! as they said in the article rove used it for 95% of his email THAT is illegal and he wasn't the only one. i read somewhere that one of the emails they DO have chastises someone for using the WH server BECAUSE of the the records act

    When it comes to the White House, there is no such thing as private e-mails (at least not when it is job related). The Congress DOES have the right to view any and all communications of the President dealing with his staff and his departments, under federal law (as does any private citizen). It's called the Presidential Records Act. Look it up.

    Any and all correspondance between the White House and any of the Executive Branch departments and agencies would be considered "job related", including correspondance with the Justice Department.

    Are you not aware that Congressmen in both the House and Senate are given security clearances just like those given to high-ranking members of the White House? The Senate Armed Services Committee, for example, or the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, all have the same clearance as the President.

    I have. You may want to read up on it yourself. It's called the Presidential Records Act. The Freedom of Information Act also applies. Again, look it up.
