Bush: Democrats need to drop Iraq pullout demand
Politics – President Bush, prodding Congress to extend the Iraq war without calling troops home, said Monday that Democratic leaders owe it to veterans and their families to pass the war-spending bill he wants.
Seems to me his tone is changing a bit. Two weeks ago he wanted to ram it down Congress's throat; now it's..."Listen, I understand Republicans and Democrats in Washington have differences over the best course in Iraq, that's healthy. That's normal, and we should debate those differences. But our troops should not be caught in the middle.

"Good idea on his part, for a change".
Yeah, but he talked a good game right after the midterms too. There will be no negotiation, compromise, nor yielding on his part. It's his way or here comes the veto. He's not sincere.
President Bush constantly(often to his own demise)tries to compromise with the democrats. His downfall from day one has been trying to keep everybody happy, instead of saying screw the dems, screw compromise, we've got this. He should stick to his guns on the firings of the atty's, he should stick to his guns on Iraq, and he should definately stick to his guns on this piece of crap, pork-filled spending bill!
you are out of your mind. absolutely blinded by your politics. if you believe any ounce of this "compromising with the democrats" crap you are incapable of independant assessment.
even a rudimentary glance at the history of the past 6 years shows this president has had absolutely no concern for compromise with democrats. not any. he, in his own words, proclaimed a 52 percent majority vote for his second term as "politcal capitol"" and took it as a mandate for his failed policy.
he sites the UN and international law when invading a country but never listens to that same goverfnming body when they tell him his invasion is illegal.
he belittles the democratic party and mischaracterizes them whenever he can.
he has included no democrats in his major cabinet roles, OR policy advisors. He has taken no Democratic advice on the war or any other major initiative. he's an intellectual midget who continues to ironically prove it by listening to noone but himself.
He has taken no Democratic advice on the war or any other major initiative. he's an intellectual midget who continues to ironically prove it by listening to noone but himself.
Uhmm the Iraq liberation act written by Dems and voted for by all Dems in the Senate and almost all Dems in Congress.
Can we really afford to take any more Democratic advice on the war or any other major initiative?
This President really can start to take some advice, bad advice from the Democrates is better than the best advice this fellow has shown in the past 6 years. The main advice is to take that rubber stamp from him. Now Americans can enjoy the way democracy is supposed to be, messy compromise. Personally, I am opposed to leaving Iraq since I think this can be turned into a positive. But I am real, this President in 5 years have not shown a plan. War on Terror, surge -which is silly- and other undefined utter non-sense where there are no tactics, objectives or strategies to really acheive them. In case there is disagreement, come up with a tactic to defeat terror and tell it to the White House - it will be the first one they have had. If a simple minded term such as surge to solve this problem is the best America, or Iraq for that matter, has to look forward to as a plan then a debate on leaving is healthy. Let's keep surging until the military is worn down along with the treasury.
what republican, or for that matter democrat president has included the opposition in their cabinet. Try to get real and not impose unrealistic ideals on this government.
and clinton had a top counsel who was republican didn't he? i thought he intentionally did that so that he could have the oppositions voice in the room without having to sit down with them...
We were told the last time there was "amnesty" that it would never happen again. I didn't have many problems with Reagan, but I knew when the door was opened it would be a never-ending process.
And I don't see every Republican party member being for this program either. (any more than I see every Democrat against it).
As far as I know there is no such program anywhere else in the free world - I must admit I don't know if this is a fact. I only know it from country-to-country travel outside of the US. Within current proposals, you have to consider a-l-l illegal aliens in this country. Don't be duped into thinking we're just talking about migrant farm workers from Mexico through northern S.America, I would encourage you to think about that for a minute or two, and pay heed to the legislation and the restrictions involved before you put both feet on that bandwagon.
Then consider our service members in Iraq. Where do we need them most - in Iraq? I for one, think not.
Bush compromises? If you think so, I'd hate to be married to you, because you sound like 100 per cent me, and none of yours is your idea of compromise. Bush has always had in your face attitude towards the Democrats and never compromises.
tanglang - can you cite one specific instance where Bush has actually sought out a compromise with the Democrats - His philosophy has been since day one that it's his way - period!
In all seriousness... as I wrote many times before, ligically speaking, telling your enemy when you will stop fighting is illogical. No one seems to talk about that though. they are so focused on hating Bush that they are not looking at the bigger picture.
I still have not heard the back up plan if the dated pull out ends up in Iraq turning into a total war torn state with ample monies, ammo and links to Iran and Syria and Al Queda taking FULL control of iraq instead of half.
It if turns out ok, then great, but what happens if it doesn't? I don't want to hear Iraq is in its worst state and other stuff, I want to hear what will the Dems and the Republicans do if this dated pullout does not work?
I'm afraid the US is not strong enough to control Iraq while taming Iran, Syria, and Afghanistan all at once. I'm not sure who is advising the whitehouse, but even I knew how this would go. It's a power vacuum. Iran has had their eye on Iraq for 50 years and they are too strong to face openly at the present time. Ironically, Sadaam was the best option for stabilizing this region (as much as can be expected).
At this point we have only a few options:
1. start the draft and triple the amount of soldiers in the middle east.
2. somehow drag all of our allies into this mess and ramp up WWIII
If we want to start the draft. We must start with all of the people that voted for Bush the second time. If they all love their ptresident so much, go die for him and his illegitimate war. This coultry would be better off witout you anyway.
I've been pushing for this very solution for years. You like bush, arm yourself and your family and go get 'em. Only problem is, the ones who like bush are just like him and want the blood of others to pay for this conquest.
toph and teepee, You're comments are about as un-American as they can get. What you are asking for is so completely rediculus it's pathetic. Do you honestly feel that we should send the people that voted for President Bush to Iraq, and no one else? I can't begin to tell you how wrong you are. But I have news for you, we, the people that voted for President Bush are already armed. And no matter what you libs try to do to the constitution by destroying tne second amendment, we will always be armed!
Hey stupid, who said a damn word about the second amendment? I've got more firepower that I'll ever use, but this war is stupid, right from the start. Second amendment has absolutely nothing to do with it!
I was referring to dummie up there saying we should arm ourselves and go to war. And yes, when it comes to arming oneself the second amendment comes into play. Especially when dems are currently, and always have tried to destroy this amendment. Before you call me stupid, maybe you should think about your own insanity. You must be insane to vote for a party who would hurt you. A party who would gladly take away your arms if given half the chance. If you don't believe me, just look at that B*tch from Ny. I theink her name is mcarthur, or something. She has yet again introduced the "assault weapons ban". This time it includes hand guns, shot guns, and any gun that holds more than ten rounds.
"dems are currently, and always have tried to destroy this amendment."
Horseshit.
The party that is bent on destroying the constitutional is currently occupying the White House. Patriot Act? Habeus Corpus? Signing statements? Treaty abrogations? The list is a long and harsh indictment of your neocon friends.
One should not throw rocks when they live in a glass house.
As usual you clowns miss the point and at the same time confirm your own cowardice! The issue isn't the Second Amendment but the fact that you jerks are all rah rah war until it comes time to put your cowardly asses on the line - then you run like hell throwing up smokescreens to cover yourselves!
btw - there are as many liberals that are as well armed(if not more so) as any of you cowards and moreover we know how to use them effectively!
Oh see Libs are pro sensible gun use. Cons are just pro-gun period. I have yet to hear a Con explain WHY they need an automatic assault weapon to hunt with, have you?
Who cares, the 2nd amendment has nothing to do with hunting. I need my assault rifleS for many reasons. For instance, when some liberal crack smoking welfare baby tries to break into my house again, I'll be able to handle the situation just like the last time.
This administration has done more to undermine the Constitution than Congress!
Nothing wrong with being prepared. I have purchased all the field gear I once used in the military, just need the weapon. However, being armed has nothing to do with this debate.
So now there's someone else "deciding" who is un-American. You agree with his policies, but not enough to go put your life on the line, huh? Sad, very sad. Imperialism is "un-American,"is it not? As a matter of fact, your president seems to have a whole list of disagreements with what OUR constitution says. And when he can't take action action to change it, he redefines certain parts of it and circumvents other parts. Are you starting to see a pattern? So before you get down to calling poor clods like us "un-American," perhaps you should, for the good of everyone involved, start at the top of the food chain. This guy ain't no Ben Franklin or Thomas Jefferson.
Here here! If you voted for Bush, no physical, no requirements. You get an M-16, a jug of water, three candy bars and dropped off in the hot-zone. If you voted for Kerry, you get to dispense the M-16, the jug of water adn the three candy bars from a secure location in Hawaii.
Where does the line start? Do I get lei'd when I get there?
We can take a page from Rummy and only give them a half jug of water and 2 candy bars and only every other one gets an M16. (We can use the money we save to hire our friends to do stuff).
After all, we have to go with the army we have, not the one we want.
History is what it is. Your draft dodging chickenhawk neoclown heroes know nothing of combat, war or the personal sacrifice made by our troops and veterans. During their last convention, they wore band-aids with purple hearts on them to disparage that award and insult all who earned one.
"...would wound themselves outside of combat, then pay off a doctor to get a purple heart." More insults to vets that have that award. I doubt that you would have the nads to say that to the face of any one of them. To think that they shed their blood so some peckerhead like you can disparage and insult their wounds.
it disgusts me. to think that someone might lie and degrade the sacrifice and heroism symbolized by the bronze star that hangs on my grandfathers wall makes me sick...
if the burning the flag is to be considered a crime than surely burning the honor of those that sacrifice to defend it is too.
Monkey, given half the chance I would stand up to lerch and call him on his lies. Just as I would stand up to any of you. Funny how I run into all these angry violent libs online, but in public you all keep your scared little mouths shut.
First, I was/am referring SOLELY to lerch. Nobody else. Second, I doubt you could take me. And if you ever tried, you might want to bring a lunch, 'cause it's gonna take you all day.
Democrats need to tell Bush to go "Cheney" himself!
They need to tell him that they will drop the pullout demand as soon as he and his gang pullout of the white house!!!!!!!! Sounds like a good trade.
Peace

beacuse every time he gave a littleinstead of compromising the libs just came back yelling for more

Actually it's not uncommon:
William Cohen is a Republican. (secretary of defense under Clinton, 1997-2001)
and clinton had a top counsel who was republican didn't he? i thought he intentionally did that so that he could have the oppositions voice in the room without having to sit down with them...
Tell me what he hasn't got that he wanted over the past six years. Seems to me this is how it has been. We obviously have different viewoints though.
His open borders amnesty for illegal aliens

ttnglang; Now THERE is so high comedy, and a complete falsehood. Bush is about as willing to compromise as Hitler was.

I figure those that voted for kerry, would wound themselves outside of combat, then pay off a doctor to get a purple heart.
Those that voted for Bush would be trying to find a way to go AWOL and not get caught.
Do you get your info from Dan Rather?
