When it comes to Ronald Reagan's 11th commandment -- "Thou shalt not speak ill of thy fellow Republicans" -- GOP presidential candidates seem to be losing their religion. Republican candidates have been speaking a lot of ill -- sometimes quite directly.

I honestly miss REAL republicans.. Even as a progressive liberal ive noticed the shift away from what Republicans stood for originally. To what they believe and promote now.

Can't even find a republican these days who spends less than democrats, or is for less government.. Which to me is the true signal the Republican party is a shell of its former self..

There is a great deal of difference between "progressive" and "reactionary." You shouldn't be ashamed to identify yourself accurately.

Well Aid I mean no one is what they were even myself included. The republicans will (de?)evolve with time as does the democratic party. I am told stories that back in the 50's the democrats made no bones about supporting the working middle class. Nowadays they want to champion the underdog and under privilaged...SO yeah every camp makes shifts and etc.

The Repugnants are corporatists. They have corporate lobbyists writing the legislation and the enforcement codes and they legislate for the highest bidders. When it comes to consumer protection and protecting the rights of the people or promoting gov't of, for and by the people, the Repugnants are nowhere to be found - except on the opposing side. They are the party of graft and corruption - as the Abramoff scandals make plain.

It would be more apt in this era to describe Repugnants as supra-state corporatists, for they promote an agenda of global fascism.

The Democraps aren't much better. It would not have been possible for the Dumbya dictatorship to inflict the severe damage it has without the help of the Democraps.

Both of these corrupt monopoly parties need to examine themselves. Americans aren't going to put up with this crap for much longer.

If you really want to know what a real republican is , then look up the speaches of teddy roosvelt. Republicans where once the progresives. But now they are so far right that democrats seem to be the center. Reagan took away all the protective regulations that kept the worker strong. His actions undid what teddy roosvelt started. Its sad that he did it. Its worse that people dont see it

Was Reagan real? I missed something during those years. He was just BAD. Bush is off the scales. Go back to the 50s and there's a REAL Repub.

Reagan defeated a world super power and threat to the US without losing a soldier or firing a bullet. Sounds awful to me.

Reagan is a fantasy of the neocon corporate media amnesia industry. His approval ratings were dismal. Most of the country opted out of the elections, so his "landslide" was with a minority of participation. His administration will be remembered for promoting poverty and homelessness and shafting middle class working people while enriching the wealthiest. He spent more than ALL of the previous administrations COMBINED. He allowed a shadow gov't to exist in his own administration and then pleaded ignorance. This regime supported death squads and dictators and assassinations around the world. He funded the terrorists in Afghanistan - which morphed into al Qaeda - with $ billions of our taxpayer revenue and the rest from off the books heroine trafficking.

We're still paying for the Reagan years in many disturbing ways.

Bush is NOT a conservative. He is a neoconservative. Or maybe we should call him a neoliberal, afterall his behavior is closer to the liberals in many ways than the traditional conservatives.

...I think it would be a stretch to call him a Neo-conservative. To me, the NeoConservatives arrived with the assent of Speaker Gingrich and The Contract with America. It was THE most successful political agenda to change the face of American Politics since The New Deal of FDR.

Contrast this with Speake Pelosis'"100 Days" Agenda. All of those initatives, every single one, ....FAILED. No wonder the call for relentless Anti-Bush Sniping. (No other ideas!)

The things I admire most about traditional conservatives (Not Bush!!!) is their attachment to realism. They are real and honest. They know that you can't get tangled up in foreign countries and they know that you can't live off credit forever.

The things I hate about Libs and NeoLibs (Bush) is they do none of the above. Bush is even worse than the typical liberal. At least the traditional liberal is trying to better the country even if they go about it in silly ways (keep in mind that a lot of Democrats are also Neoliberals).

Then, by your own words, you are not a traditional conservative because if you actually believe that line, you are not being real nor are you being honest. No party embraces the `living off credit` (shirking fiscal responsibility to future generations is better description imo) more than the Republicans. As a superpower, all of our leaders have gotten tangled up in foreign countries in one way or another (i.e. `53 CIA Coup in Iran). Let`s be `real and honest`. The era when we could enjoy some isolation ended prob before the 18th cent. Reps screw around abroad for political reasons while Dems do same more for humanitarian reasons.

Neocons were Liberals who didn`t make the cut. They take the worst of both sides.

wildman6557 - traditional Republicans (used to be one) are not only somewhat conservative but also very moderate and could reason. Todays Republican party is unfortunately overtaken by the NeoCons who have made it a bad thing.

Republicans used to vote for their constituents and the people, now they are lockstep voting with Bush like they are part of his special club. Politicans who will not vote for the people's interest first should be voted out of office regardless of party.

We have to get some common sense back into politics or we are screwed. If you have 151 people voting the same way every time, just fire 150 of them and give the other guy 151 votes, it would be very cost effective.

Nothing is worse then a real Liberal. They are selling us out with their craving for political power. Of coures you prefer the 50s Republicans, they kowtowed to Democrats and prayed they would get a crumb from the political table. It wasn't until Goldwater woke them up that they began to appeal to Americans that can take care of themselves. All over the world there are Terrorist attacks, and Edwards stood there and said there is no need for a war on Terror. Democrats don't see these attacks? Does the enemy have to wipe out Edwards huge estate for him to get the message? There has been no Attacks on America for nearly six years. If President Bush can prevent the attacks I expect the Democrats to prevent them as well. Just in case the Democrats pick up any additional seats in 08 I will build a Bomb shelter, or as they call it today Weather shelter.

Good points Aniokly, i can see why you follow Bush. I like the way he ignored all the warnings about 911 he was given by half the worlds intelligence outfits. I also like the way Cheney let the planes fly around for an hour with no fighter escort until all had reached their targets. I am particularly fond of the way he attacked the wrong country and alienated 1 billion muslims, all the while leaving American ports and borders open to them. I also thought giving the Arabs control of your port facilities would have been an outstanding idea but he flip flopped on that one.

Yes indeed, truly a man of great foresight, after reading some of your stuff i can honestly see why you support him. Personally i think he is a fumbling dolt who has screwed up every major decision to cross his desk and has worsened terrorism as no other could. Congrats.

Your world is not set in reality. I notice you said, "If President Bush can prevent the attacks..." That shows a great lack of confidence on your part. Should people continue to die for an "If"? Now let's determine who is the enemy. Will you follow me? Yesterday in the news a big terrorist plot was foiled. It happened in Saudi Arabia, not Iraq. The majority of the 911 bombers were from....Saudi Arabia. Where was the Cole when it was attacked? Did you say Yemen, you are correct! Correlate all this to Iraq and you will have proved yourself to be as smart as Vice president Cheney and Bush. If you can't correlate. You have snapped back into reality and there is hope for you.

A "real Liberal"?? Webster defines liberal as "not narrow in opinion or judgment". That doesn't sound like Democratic pols, who are as histrionically knee-jerk in their reactions to situations as their GOP counterparts. They can't think past their respective nanny-state legislative proposals, be it "gun control" or the PATRIOT Act.

Presently, there's a disconnect between the philosophical and political aspects of ideology. What is philosophically liberal may not necessarily jibe with what is being proffered politically as 'liberal'. Same deal with 'conservative'.

The Republicans can't decide what they stand for anymore. According to Aniokly it is all the Democrats fault. They must be waving thier magic wand and casting spells on the Republicans to make them fight among themselves. LOL.

Bush moves to the Liberal model: big government, patronage, etc. and Libs go nuts.

Now if Libs would just recognize they see in Bush what they hate about themselves, then we can make real progress.

Come on, Libs, you're almost to the finish line.

Hear that sound? It's the billionaires laughing. The grand alliance between the Religious Right and the Corporate establishement did one significant thing -- cut taxes for the rich. If Huckabee or anybody else thinks that the social conservatives drove politics or anything else, it's a sad day. They need some help telling the difference between crumbs and loaves.

Now, the corporate PACs are giving to Dems and getting the same favors they got from the Rs. And the doctrinaire conservatives are only now realizing they've been kicked out of the limo? Yeesh!

so ok let's say the cut to the rich is real. What is the upper ratio in this country...1%? yes right one percent. Now as a liberal you must want to champion the MINORITIES yes? I thought that was something you guys got all fired up about...the minorities. Well if 1% of the people get a tax break thats one HELL of a minority isnt it? Whats that? you are SELECTIVE about the minorities you give a damn about? shoulda said so.

We all wanna be rich. stop whining. We live in a country where that can be YOU in the 1% if you rely on yourself more and work the capitalism ladder. try becoming rich in Somalia I dare you.
