Now that this thing is dead (so they say), can we finally get our government to enforce the law?

I am so glad there is a voting record linked right from the article. Everyone should look at their record and praise or punish.

You can find voting records as they happen, and follow legislation as it happens, on Senate.gov

Is there a limit on amount of times a bill can be re-introduced? I mean god! are we really going to have to worry about this forever? looks pretty much like most Americans pulled together and agreed on this issue- How many times will they 're-word' it, and try and pass it off as a good solution? for all those who contacted their congress etc...I imagine feel like they were finally heard on something that is important. FINALLY!

To re-introduce, or change the wording slightly or whatever is an insult and shows they weren't listening to us.

When i was elected there were some vote that I strategically missed on purpose..Believe me, NOT voting is a vote against.

        But is it??

Now those who did not vote have the ultimate power to

        add/subtract their amendments..

This was very carefully calculated!! Very!!

Obama and Clinton in particular refuse to go on record on the issue. Others are hoping you will be happy just that they didn't vocally support it. I am only satisfied with vocal opposition. The rest is political gamesmanship of the worst order.

As I said on another post. We need to secure our borders. That is a bipartisan issue. Let's start with that. Build a wall, set up a barrier, put troops on the border. Whatever it takes to secure our borders from Maine to Washington, and from California to Texas and Florida. Then and only after that has been accomplished can we tackle the illegals that are already here. This problem is to big to handle with a comprehensive bill. We have to work with the things we already have consensus on and push it through. A bill with no earmarks, no pork. The executive has to pull there behinds out of Iraq and use some of that money to protect our borders. We spend more time and money protecting Iraqi and Afghanistan borders than we do our own. The law was passed to start erecting a fence. Executive get with it. Congress start the next phase. Secure our borders!

We wouldn't need a fence if they prosecuted even 10 employers this week, who are easy to find and easy to prove they knew they were hiring illegals.

The govt. refuses to turn off the magnet and until that happens, they will pole vault over the tallest fence if necessary.

I was getting my hopes up that congress would listen to that kind of message until I saw the last sentence

The fact that the senate would even consider such a bill shows how little regard they have for the issue of homeland security

We need to make sure that there is movement to enforce the laws we already have. That the fencing already voted on is actually constructed. The ports and borders should have been closed on September 12th. This is absurd to try to sort out this entire mess with one bill.

I will contact my representatives again. They must be so tired of hearing from me by now. But I shall do it.

          Thank you for posting this.

That is the President's job. The executive branch is 100% in charge of enforcement. Bush has funding and refuses to do it.

Thanks Amazing1, for letting me know about Bryan's/DC most recent article. Storms rolling through blocked my sat.feed, was unable to us puter.

This is great information. Thanks Bryan!

I do not trust the creators of this bill. My gut is telling me that they are going to try to get it passed again, very shortly.

I will be contacting my representatives by phone & by mail! Secure our borders, ports, build the fence & go after employers who hire illegals. (employers should not be allowed to hire a person until their legal status has been verified!)

Just in case anyone would like to read some of the details of this bill, CNN Lou Dobbs has 5 listed on his website.

Only when the wall is fully built and patrolled by armed guards, and only when the US collapses politically and economically, will lumpen white dumbfux discover that the wall is constructed to keep them IN as well as others OUT.

I just took a look at the website of my Senator who voted yes.

            http://alexander.senate.gov/

Still trying to boil out all the goo and dribble, but it looks like he sees a real need to create a solid and acceptable solution. Something needs to be done soon and he has a pretty hardline approach to the issue.

I guess it remains to be seen if it's a con, but at least he isn't sticking his head in the sand and hoping the problem will go away.

I personally think they need to kill this bill and start over. It's so one sided that even small compromises can hurt us badly. I think that will be my message to him.

If any of you guys can see holes in his position I would be glad if you pointed them out.

All of them ignore that which is obvious to the average voter; hold employers accountable and the demand will dry up. Until they cut their corporate leashes, there will be no change. And the status quo is unacceptable if their is no intention to enforce it.

                It's a mess..

I think some guys think it's better for illegals

if we do nothing so it may have been sabotaged..

I've seen people vote in favor of a bill that

they destroyed with amendments and it lost,

but they can say they supported it..

I've seen many vote against something they

were originally in favor of because it was

weakened (by their point of view) and

I've seen many vote against something,

only to be able to get their way by using

their influence force future changes in

exchange for their vote (blackmail tactic)

I've been an elected official in 2

cities and watched Congress since the latter

Vietnam years, so I've seen much...

Nothing would surprise me, except how willing

they are to let nothing happen, when ANY action

is necessary to solve America's biggest threat...

Invasion by extremists and terrorist threats!

Looks like the mexicans will breed out the black race in a short time., maybbe this is what they want.

I suspect there is a form of racism, preferring one minority over the other; but let's not forget, blacks are American citizens and they are dealing with enough problems without our govt. refusing to protect them from unfair labor competition.

And also, don't forget, it is not only blacks whose incomes are going down as a result; the lower the bottom, the lower the middle.

They are already more mexicans than blacks. That didn't worry too many people like you. Looks like they're well on the way to breeding out the white race too. Now your worrying! So don't be smug.

I'm glad that this bill is out of the picture, but there were some good ideas in there. I hope next time around, the Senate will try and fix 1 problem at a time, not the 100 problems of immigration all at once.

Believe me, this one will pass..

There are a few last minute tougher (maybe better)

provisions to put in there so the last minute

Dems, who stopped this, even though they had the vote,

                  can show their toughness..

That might be good, but it

                  will not be weakened..

Kennedy, according to O'Reilly, has added a provision

protecting gang members, and supposedly THAT is why it was defeated??

Now, why would Kennedy do that, unless he wanted it defeated?

                  Did he do that??

It's psychological warfare and I'm afraid the alcohol has finally gotten into the lymph nodes, unless O'Reilly

is bloviating and propagandizing (which is possible)..

                  Anyone got accurate info??

As my father says, "There are some good ideas in Mein Kampf but I wouldn't make it a basis for law." It's the bad ones that I worry about.
