A Look Back at Immigration, or Fifty Years of Lies »
Posted By zaph22 1 year, 4 months ago in NewsBy now everyone has heard of the proposed new Immigration Bill, the result of months of secret back-room negotiations between Democrats and Republicans. Rather than attack the bill, or calling names, I am going to do something different. I am going to look at a number of PAST immigration bills, and compare the situation today.

Maybe in this case we really should learn from the past, and insist Congress does too! And they should listen to the Senator from Nevada, he had some good ideas on immigration policy, the Senator from Nevada in 1952 that is. Then in 1964 and 1965 a Senator from Massachusetts was very involved in immigration "reform" and you can see the results of his ideas on good immigration policy, conbined with Reagan's mistake of granting amnesty to those that took advantage of that 1965 immigration reform...
Here is a comment made by a certain Senator about the 1965 immigration reform bill...

"The bill will not flood our cities with immigrants. It will not upset the ethnic mix of our society. It will not relax the standards of admission. It will not cause American workers to lose their jobs." (U.S. Senate, Subcommittee on Immigration and Naturalization of the Committee on the Judiciary, Washington, D.C., Feb. 10, 1965. pp. 1-3.). Kennedy is now the ranking Democrat on the Senate Committee on Immigration." I'm just not quite sure why he's still on the Immigration Committee, and even less sure why after his last involvement with immigration reform, why he is the one that wrote this new bill.

Senator Kennedy, with his history from his '65 bill coming back to haunt us, is the last person to be the face of immigration reform. Democrats think we will back away from our objections to this Amnesty bill, and they will be able to sneak it through in the middle of the night, but we will vote them out in 08, just like we did the Republicans in 06.

aniokly, I'm conservative myself, but to fair on this one there are both Republicans and Democrats that want to push this bill through. Both sides in Congress see it as a way to increase they're chances of winning elections by increasing the size of their voter base. But for some reason they don't seem to be worried about alienating a large part of their current base. We all, Democrats and Republicans need to keep the pressure on every member of Congress. And not let up while they pretend they are done trying to get this bill passed, so that they can sneak it through when they can delude themselves into believing the citizens, legal ones, of the US have given up fighting it. And I still think no matter what happens now we need to send a message next election, that anyone running for anything that supported this amnesty bill, will NOT be elected to any office, and if they are already in office, they won't be after this coming election. All need to fight this, personal politics aside.

I will use some of the examples from this article, in my next letter to my congress people and the Pres.
This non-sense bill must be killed, never to be revived and ALL those that supported it MUST be tossed out in their next election.
Enforce the current laws, PROVE to us that we NEED all these extra Law-BREAKING Illegals AFTER the wall is built & our borders secure, then perhaps we will be willing to consider some type of Immigration reform.
Low wages have stopped the modernization of many farms here in calif. If they paid a decent wage, the cost of lettuce would goup by 5 cents! I am willing to pay that... are you?

EsaEngr says the price of lettuce would go up by 5 cents,my question is how much are we subsidizing with our taxes the farmers by providing services for their illegal alien workers, how much is incarcerating those that harm Americans that flood in with the illegal alien workers, how much is the value of the lives lost by Americans directly and indirectly by illegal aliens, what value do we place on a child raped and murdered by an illegal alien,a wife or daughter lost,a Policeman dead, why illegally dumped cheap labor is okay but illegally dumped cheap shrimp isn't.These are the questions our "leaders" need to answer when they refuse to secure our borders.

I seem to recall that one of the Senators, perhaps McCain, was quoted as saying, "This is the best that we could do."
If this is their best, then they should all immediately hand in their resignations.

This is for votes and cheap labor. That's it. Our politicians don't care about us, what makes anyone stupid enough to think they 'care' for immigrants? Give me a break! Frauds, just power hungry and greedy seems to me.

Good article. If this is their best we are in trouble. But you know we keep electing these idiots. Even when we finally get rid of one, we just vote another one in. Skeptic, I used that same line from McCain when I brought home a bad grade, still got in trouble.

This bill was up for vote in the Senate before anyone really knew what it did other than a couple undefined media statements. The value of the Amendment Process was that it was instructional for the American people. It gave us information on the real content of this Bill. Blaming a few Senators for blocking this bill is BS. I doubt if anyone really knows what's in this bill, good or bad, from my prospective. What bothers me is the Media position that we simply have to have an immigration bill now, and without it, is somehow a failure of our System. Not one media outlet is saying maybe a bad bill is a bad bill. Its possible that a fully comprehensive law is impossible at this time. It complicates and forments distrust. This Grand Compromise of a few Senators and WH staff smelled fishy from the beginning and the efforts to push it through is fishy. With not making the so called mistakes the House did last year, the Senate has really stepped on their collective crank.

When one lives in a "compound" in an exclusive community, it is easy to conclude from the gardener's weekly visit that we are NOT overrun by illegals...
Same thing for this exclusive compound, called Washington, D.C. 20510, 20515,.....

Anyone hear Senator Dorgan Friday afternoon before the second cloture vote?? He let the cat out of the bag!
He was speaking on the Senate floor.
He said the Congressional Budget Office notified the Senate on Thursday that the immigration bill they were considering would allow ~ 75% of the current rate of illegal immigration to CONTINUE!!!
This was another case of the Senate telling the public the border would be secure when they knew the opposite was the case!
And they wonder why the public has NO confidence in them

You are right about both Democrats, and Republicans being involved in writing this disasterous bill, but when the Republicans saw the total outrage by the people, the Republicans began dropping away. There has never been such complete furor over any bill in History. Thanks to the Internet people flooded every Congressional Office, every Senate office with E-mails, calls, and letters all against this bill. Voters never were as involved in political discourse before. We will not allow this bill to be passed without voting out every politician that supports it. ?Especially if they try to sneak it though in the middle of the night.

Polititians think this bill is OK because they are not in direct contact with illegal immigrants as regular Americans are. You can bet that they wont be in private schools with their kids or their neighborhoods. I live in Georgia where the population has exploded. I was asked "Do I speak Spanish" during an interview. I didn't get the job. This happens more than you think. The police here are scared to stop them(we know they have forged papers)because they dont want to be accursed of racial profiling. The Hispanic women cant drive and don't know the rules of the road, but they drive big SUVs. I cant tell you the number of accidents they cause, and get out and run. The Governor has not addressed this problem at all. Our country is being taken over one state at a time, and our stupid representatives are letting it happen. Every since the election of 2000 they don't have to listen to us legal Americans

While Bush is backing this insane amnesty bill, politicians ignoring the will of the people they are supposed to be representing, US, started long, long, before Bush took office. Don't let hate, and Bush bashing fool you into thinking this problem in only 7 years old. It's just that it has taken this bill, this situation, and to see how things got this way, I hope you read the article, you need to take a very hard look at Teddy Kennedy and his involvement in the 1965 immigration reform bill, and then at Reagan's mistake of granting amnesty. Again, this is a situation with it's roots long before Bush was president, either Bush for that matter.

When Black People get welfare they are considered lazy and not wanting to work, but when Hispanics get it after they come here and have their anchor babies- they are trying to better their lives. I dont get it. Our government is scared to tell business that if they hire illegals they could lose their licenses and be fined, and put all illegals on notice that if you are here unlawfully and caught you will be deported. Holding a march in a country where you are breaking the law is bold. In my neighborhood that is called "IN Your Face".

They had a chance to round up a lot of illegals during that protest. They were not even holding a legal protest. Our Government sat there and did nothing. They know where to find these expectant mothers and they don't even make the attempt to enforce the law. It is just like the house next door. I know that there is drugs being sold as the women's husband lives further down the street. I see the teens come in and come out about as quick as they go in . Both houses, make a complaint to the law enforcement and it harms my family. Yeah, I know I can move but, why should I give up what I have put my money into so honestly? I feel the same about my country. People always consider any one on Welfare lazy and that's not always true. Welfare can also be a trap. Inflation of price keeps them there. Most white people get thrown to the gutter when it comes to social services. There are those that will exploit government services. They are the ones that need to be arrested.

You know what I don't really see here is a solution to the immigration problem.
What exactly do some of you want? That we should round up all the illegal aliens and then do what? Put them in camps until we can ship them back? I'd like to see a real solution, because going down the route that the net roots activism is going, nothing changes. Nothing gets done. And in this case, no one wins.
Its an interesting bit of hate I see here. A weird dichotomy of people who post things about illegals getting their jobs, or how they are invading our country. The paranoia of the 911 attacks is most represented with so few words here. Odd little diatribes about people killed or jobs taken.
But there is another perspective that seems to be lacking. That most of those who come here do come here and do their best to get another life. They work hard, that is why they get the jobs. They are not criminals, they come here with their family for a chance.
So come up with a solution.

We have Forts that are half in use. They can put them there and transport them to the border after they have place a mug shot and names in the computers.

If there is any doubt as to the Senates intentions one merely notes that if currentlaws were enforced and supported by all three branches of government we would not have an border jumping illegals. Our government does not have the will to enforce current laws and would therefore not enforce restrictions in the new law. It was nothing more than a sham to sneak amnesty by a country that polls 75% to 80% opposed to amnesty.
What would one expect when La Raza consulted on the legislation. Examples:
Richard Alatorrre LA City Council: "They're afraid we're going to take over the government institutions. You are right, we will take them over . . . .We're here to stay."
Professor Jose Angel Guterrez, UT We have an aging white America. They are not making babies. They are dying. The explosion of our population . . . .I love it. They are ******ting in their pants in fear. I love it.
