from the article;
One veteran Republican said Gonzales had used up all his political capital in the Senate. "There is no confidence in the attorney general on this side of the aisle," said Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, the senior Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Specter voted to move the resolution forward, but he said many of his GOP colleagues would not because they feared political retribution.

If members of congress voted constituents, instead of conscience, marijuana would be legal already.
Conscience is swayed by personal values, such as (pocket)money, philosophy or religion. None have their place in laws or govermental policy

""There is no confidence in the attorney general on this side of the aisle," said Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania..."
The vote says otherwise. Specter is an idiot.
Perhaps the Senate should go about actually doing something for the country, if the Demcorats in charge ever could bring up something worth doing. They've been sitting on their haunches too damn long now.

"The vote says otherwise. Specter is an idiot." No, lrf, you are an idiot. The vote was 53-38. Five Republicans voted in favor. Six didn't vote. Does that bespeak coinfidence in this moron AG? NOT!

This is a prime example of the republicans continuing to do what has led us into these dire straits in the first place. They are republicans first and foremost, and Americans second. Screw your political party affiliation. Do what is best for the country for a change. Better yet, voters, vote Independent whenever possible and put an end to this bullspit!!!

It's a game no matter who's playing it. Gonzales has lost the confidence of the majority in this country; the Senate vote or non-vote won't change that perception. He's still seen as W's private attorney and political toady at Justice.

From the article:
Sen. Trent Lott, R-Miss., said it was inappropriate for the Senate to hold forth on a member of the president's Cabinet.
"This is a nonbinding, irrelevant resolution proving what? Nothing," Lott said. "Maybe we should be considering a vote of no confidence on the Senate or on the Congress for malfunction and an inability to produce anything."
That's a great idea!!! Let's have a vote of no confidence on the Senate AND the Congress and impeach Bush and Cheney as well.
Take back OUR government!

well, at least you got the first half right: no confidence in the Senate and House of Reps. For all their billowing, the Dem-led congress has done nothing other than tack the minimum wage increase to troop funding.
I take that back, Feinstein, Reid and William Jefferson have done a great job of lining their own pockets via corruption. Murtha beat them to it a while ago, though.

"They can have their votes of no confidence, but it's not going to make the determination about who serves in my government," Bush said in Sofia, Bulgaria, the last stop on a weeklong visit to Europe.

We the people elected him twice to set up his government/cabinet. HE won on a majority the second time around - something Clinton and Carter never did.
The real problem is, too many Demcorats are throwing hissy fits and trying to rewrite the Constitution to suit their political ambitions. They even tried to make us lose in Iraq just for their political gain.

such prescient observation...so, WE were winning in Iraq, until these wimpy dems decided to try to make US lose? Oh yeah, Mission Was Already Accomplished?
And the real damage to The American Way has been perpetrated by BushChenyInc and the constant efforts (over the last 20 yrs at least) to acquire executive powers and protect same from public scrutiny. Real Republican Conservatives believe in LESS Federal Big-Brotherism, not more.

Are you a real living human being? Are you in a bunker somewhere, giddly typing away? Do you actually -work- for the government? Do you actually believe that your attitude would lead to the world being a better place?
I'm actually asking this honestly, not with malice or condesending attitude. You just seem to be...a pretty hostile person, and I always find it strange when a person thinks that there is one whole group of people to blame for all the trouble in the world, and everyone who does bad things is sort of controlled or a part of that enemy force.
The only thing this article has done for me is made me realize that the Republicans are craven cowards. Their political survival is more important than the person that is the highest officer of -our- laws. It essentialy means they do not care about law at all when you think about it.
Scary times folks

I forgot,
Who is trying to re-write the constitution on the democratic side of the fence? Actually it seems they are feebly trying to save some part of it, but anyone with a brain knows that that document isn't worth a darn anymore, you don't have any rights the govt. can't circumvent, even in broad daylight.
The Democratic party is overmatched and hoping the Republicans will make a mistake, but they won't, they've waited a long time for this atmosphere, this mood, this time for fear. Eventually the pendulum does stop swinging....

Apparently this Senate is trying to rewrite the constitution. A motion of no confidence, also called a motion of non-confidence, a censure motion, a no-confidence motion, or simply a confidence motion, is a parliamentary motion traditionally put before a parliament by the opposition
In presidential systems, the legislature may occasionally pass motions of no confidence, as was done against United States Secretary of State Dean Acheson in the 1950s, but these motions are of symbolic effect only. Presidential systems also usually have the procedure of impeachment by which an executive or judicial officer can be removed
Someone tell the Senate they seem to be confused about the actual system of government they are members of.
If all of the charges are true that they were throwing around during the debate yesterday, they need to move to impeachment immediately

They blocked this stupid play for the wrong reason. It's unconstitutional plain and simple.
Congress has no power to politically molest the President nor his officers. It's simply not granted in the Constitution. The ONLY thing Congress can do is impeach. Andrew Jackson made the same argument about his censure and his position is as unassailable now as it was then.
Congress, crap or get off the pot. Take Gonzales to the mat or move on to real business. Or just go home and quit wasting The People's money.
