What does a fence on the United State-Mexico border have to do with goats? 'People are at least as smart as goats,' Lott continued. 'Maybe not as agile. Build a fence. We should have a virtual fence. Now one of the ways I keep those goats in the fence is I electrified them. Once they got popped a couple of times they quit trying to jump it.'

Asked for clarification as to what exactly the analogy was, Lott spokesman Lee Youngblood said that the senator supported a variety of measures in the immigration bill, including unmanned aerial surveillance vehicles, radar and more border patrol agents, as well as a fence to reduce the flow of illegal immigration.
"A fence in and of itself is not enough," said Youngblood. "You can have technology to support the fence and to supplement the fence."

  he said something that can be construed as offensive... ok... but not really. he didnt even say that goats were smarter than us. he saying goats cant be stopped by a fense, so people cant be stopped by a fence.
  there are plenty of valid reasons to think trent lott is a tool...
  this really isnt one of them.

  You can read what he said or ment!! The current fence is easily climbed. Adding another 500 miles would make a longer fence that is easy to climb. Goats can climb a fence if it is short enough. If people are at least as smart as goats that fence will get climbed. He saved tax payers Billions

        BUILD THE FENCE!. It will cost a few billion dollars and make some Bush campaign donors even richer. Of course it won't keep anyone or anything out, but it's not supposed to. It's just like the "war on terror". It generates trillions for the right people, which is its primary purpose, and accomplishes nothing. (Damn, I'd do anything to get the cost-plus maintenance contract on that sucker, but I don't stand a chance with Hallibuton in the running.) There will be a few gates in the fence, or course, so that any Mexicans who swear to vote Republican and accept a below minimum wage job with no benefits with any major U.S. corporation that supports Republican candidates can come in with no other questions asked.
        Now, you know what Mission Accomplished REALLY means.....the secret is out!

Surely all those people wouldn't object if I just dropped in without any invitation or papers. And surely, all of them would take care of me if I got sick or just couldn't make it financially. Hmmmm

    well, i'm not entirely concerned with what those countries would do, because i live here. in america.
    as a result i am concerned almost exclusively with american policy.
    go figure... weird how that works out hunh?
    and i hold my country to a higher bar than that set by China and North Korea, whatever their policies happen to be. (though they are communists, so though their standard fo living is inhumanely low, they might have a state funded medical system and some form of welath distribution, i dont know, you might want to look it up.)
    the other two counties... as far as taking care of you when you're sick or financially unstable... i think the swiss and the dutch would take care of you in tht case yes. they are big on social programs there.
    but i dotn know that very many illegal immigrants are being taken care of when they are sick or not making it financially...
    oh wait, yes i do. they aren't. they aren't relying on welfare for money or medical bills.

      well your telling an outright lie. I see it first hand everyday what happens when an illegal gets sick. They go to the hospital, get health care and then they leave. no bill, nothing.
      Company's I work with hire illegals and I hear everything there is too know about illegal immigrants.
      They dont exactly pay taxes on the money they make so the money that pays for their FREE health care comes from AMERICANS. Not MEXico. and the prisons that have illegals are paid for by AMERICANS. Mexicans can come here and do whatever they want and all that happens is they can get deported.( which is highly unlikely)
      This isnt about other immigrants. It's about Mexicans who are streaming across our border and using their collective power to force our government to make them feel welcome. We need to stop this whether anyone calls them sheep or not.

        it doesn't.
        thats a not a problem of legal status its a problem of collections. we are charging them for the service they are just refusing to pay it. so collections should go after them the same way they would go after me or you if we defaulted.
        but since no one is paying for it... and its a service related charge, the actual lost expense is minimal...
        and legal or illegal, you're talking about a human being, who is injured so badly that they are going to the Emergency Room! are you saying don't treat them?

        if a serial killer is in prison and he recieves a head trauma falling he gets medical attention! because we live in a humane society where health insurance may be a joke, but serious injury isnt ignored. we don't just let humans die!

        They use the ER as a family doctor - kid has a stomach ache or sore throat, they go to the ER. Twist your ankle, go to the ER. Have a headache, go to the ER. Get it! It doesn't matter how minimal or major the problem is, go to the ER it's FREE
        Federal law requires that you be treated if you show up. Say you can't pay - it's Free!

        1. Hospitals raise the fees to make up the difference. If you use the hospital - you pay. If you have insurance, your insurance cost increases
        2. At public hospitals the cost to operate the hospital over and above what they collect in insurance money gets passed to the taxpayer - property and income taxes. Again YOU PAY
        If the hospital is losing too much money because they are being overwhelmed with illegals and they can't make up the money, what so they do?? They CLOSE like the hospitals in California and border cities have done. Some smaller border towns no longer even have a hospital

        Too, there are local hospitals that are subsidized by local tax dollars to keep the institutions open in small cities and towns. The town I grew up in Texas had two Hispanic families living in it. Today, the town is 67%. The hospital has had to threaten closure several times in the past and the tax subsidy has increased. I do not know whether there is a correlation because I do not know whether any of the Hispanics now living in the town are illegal. Just a thought and would be worth looking into.
        Also, being a former teacher in Texas, I know there is a financial strain on educating illegals who do not contribute to that tax base directly. This education is much needed if we expect them to assimilate. Unfortunately, and one of the reasons I got out of teaching, many of them do not want to assimilate into American culture. They enjoyed all the rights and privileges (and then some-like special education, to accommodate the language barriers) that all the rest of the Americans

        The cost was $2000 because there are too many illegals getting "services" for free.
        At the same time hospitals must pay for building and equipment maintence or replacement, staff salaries, water, electricity and on and on - the "fixed costs" of running a business.
        You do understand that - right??
        Try going to see a lawyer and not pay the bill - after all it is just a service and in your words "no buck to pass on"
        When hospitals reach the point where they can't pay the fixed costs what happens - they close!

        and teh difference between a good a service is that with a good there is a debt to be made up, with a service there is none... so no buck is passed on to the tax payers as was your original assertion.

The entire medical estqablishment has been paid for by the hard earned dollars of working men and women and for illegals to come here and use our system without contributing to it is a direct theft out of my pocket.         Anyone can go to the hospital and get free "urgent" care. illegal aliens do not get free routine healthcare. I don't understand why people are so jazzed over this when 45 million Americans are uninsured.

        the government does not pick up the bill on their hospital bill (should an emergency arise in which an ilelgal would have to go to the ER).
        it just goes unpaid... and the charge is service related. so the 1500 dollars bill is not for the paper cast on his arm, its for the 45 minutes it took to get it.
        so if no one pays for that, than its not 1500 dollars lost, its the cost of a cast and the time of the doctor.
        and it happens much more infrequently than people who hate mexicans would like you to believe.
        not to mention that if it didn't, it wouldnt be a problem with the hyocratic oath, and not with our immigration process.

        Actually it does cost the government where public hospitals are concerened. If the hospital is not a private one, then equipment, medications and other costs are absorbed by the city (ie. tax payers) when illegals and citizens don't pay. Not all hosptals are private.
        So when an emergency room is not allowed to turn anyone away, and that person doesn't pay. It does cost the tax payers money. And if illegals are doing it on top of citizens, it hurts the quality of care everyone gets.

        Also, illegals know that an emergency room is not allowed to turn them away. So they, like poor citizens, go to the emergency room for every little thing. Not just for emergencies. Which is even more money shifted to the tax payer.

        Yes they do. Lots of people go to the emergency room for ear infections and everything else because they have no insurance. That's common knowledge. You can plug your ears and scream La-La-La all you want.
        Many people go to emergency rooms even with insurance for petty stuff if the doctor's office is closed for the day. Where the heck do you live where this doesn't happen?

        How do we go about collecting a default payment from an illegal alien? Don't even know where to find them to begin with. Every health care complaint that our medical establishment treats is a cost to the tax payer regardless of who is using the system. I don't care if it is illegal mexicans or illegal martians, they do not contribute to the costs and I should not be picking up a portion of their tab. Maybe I should stop paying taxes and turn to the government to take care of my needs. Wait, I can't do that because I am an American Citizen, not an illegal immigrant. Stop the madness and take back control of who enters our country. And if the fence you build does not keep them out then you did not build the right type of fence.

        Clearly you're having trouble grasping the concept. You see, public hospitals recieve their money from the city. All the gauze, asprin, CAT scan machines and other things are paid for with taxpayer and patient money. If the patients don't pay for this stuff, that is more that the government must come out of pocket. The government gets its money from the people.
        You are right, it is a defualt payment problem. Illegal immigrants exacerbate what is already a problem.

        INS is part of law enforcement. They enfore the law where illegal immigrants get sent home for being...here illegally. I've stated myself that some people don't pay hospital bills.         Santa...California and other border states routinely publish the estimated costs of state services spent on illegal immigrants. The costs are staggering, from hospital care(look up anchor babies) to prison costs and schooling of illegals' children. When my last child was born in a San Diego hospital, four of the six babies born were to non-citizens who received "special financing" and bragged about it. They also told my wife how she could get free milk through the hospital. Signs in the maternity ward read, in English and Spanish, that the hospital could not ask for a patients' immigration status when being considered for financial aid. You are either naive or lying . Oh,by the way, I'm not a Mexican hater. My wife is fron Mexico City.

Not a fan of Lott at all but I do agree on what he was trying to say. People are smater than goats and they will find a way over, under, thru or around a fence but if you hit them with something else like jail time, fine or even better yet a law which states anyone who is caught in the U.S. illeagly will serve 30 days in jail, pay a fine and can never ever receive a green card to enter the U.S

  I like that answer, but we already have laws concerning such and cannot enforce them. In addition we have already set a precedent by giving the illegals amnesty. We are fixing to do it again. Just watch.

  I don't like the 30 days in jail idea, because that would just cost more tax payers $, why not just a bus ticket or a new pair of shoes and a canteen to walk back. We can't realistically enforce them to pay fines either. But I definately agree never to recieve a green card, BIG fines for those who hire illegals,they are after all committing complicity to committing a crime, and jail and fines for coyotes.

  I agree that politicians are horribly corrupt and their ethical issues need to be addressed but just because A needs attention doesnt mean you forget about B. Illegal immigration is an issue and depending on where you live a major one and something needs to be done. It is possible to tackle more than one problem at once.

    what is the problem?
    i lived in a border town. it wasnt a real problem there. it was a made up one.
    they take jobs that other people wont because they work cheaper. export them all and youll still need to fill those jobs. to do that youll have to pay more money.
    if these restaurants and small business are forced to pay more money they will shut down, because the living standard in america is misproportionately high for the actual worth of most of the country.
    cause we live on credit.
    we are nation in debt and in order to sustain it we need someone to pull more weight proportionally than the wages they recieve.
    used to be black people and women. but we've worked hard to gain equal footing for everyone.
    now we are even more in debt and more on credit.
    so latin immigrants must sustain the servantile class.
    get rid of them and americans will have to fill it.
    its not an immigration problem. its a problem with the distribution of wealth and the circulation of our economy.

      I have no problem with Mexicans wanting to come to America to work jobs others really won't take. As many have documented, I doubt there is any job an American would not fill, but that is an old argument. The problem lies in them being here illegal. I live in Texas and have seen first hand what the state of the welfare system is today. Our tax dollars are being stretched by illegal immigration to the point we can no longer afford it as a nation. The problem arises in how to solve that problem. If we make them legal, what about all the others who want to come to America legally? Why should we discriminate against them? They also will take those jobs and be happy to get them. When does illegality really mean illegal?

        even the assertion that an american would take the same job is ridiculous, because if it were true, you know who the employer would have hired? an american.
        they speak english. they have legal papers. and if the IRS catches the employer paying them, they dont get shut down.
        there is no reason to hire an illegal immigrant if you could get an american to do it for the same amount of money...
        it even costs more to the employer, as the wages paid to an immigrant are undocumented and thus taxable profit.

But the Mexicans cross that line and the border and think they have more rights than other immigrants. MExicans need to wait in line to. Plain and simple.

        BTW,Cesar Chavez HATED illegal immigrants. He was smart enough to know that the low paying jobs will ALWAYS stay low because there is always some illegal that is willing to undermine a person asking for more money.
        Let's put it this way. One illegal has a job for five years and ask for a pay raise for his hard service. Another illegal mexican crosses the border and the company hires him for nothing instead of giving the other 5 year veteran a raise. Simple enough for you. Figure it out.
        On the other hand. They dont pay taxes and they can keep everything they want. and if they become legal then they get our social security money that they DIDNT PAY ONE CENT FOR. It's not fair but the Mexicans think it is. Who do we want to listen to? Us or them

        you're ridiculous. its so easy to check that out. look at border states and towns and see if the welfare numbers are abnormally higher than towns with fewer projected immigrants and similar economic structures...

        When The New American called a state welfare representative to find out to what extent illegal immigrants can take advantage of welfare programs to obtain food aid, healthcare, housing allowances, and child care, she would only tell us that each county determines eligibility and that eligibility is mainly dependent on one's income level.

        I served on a grand jury who had to deal with an illegal who tapped the system. I was told by the welfare workers, it was just the tip of the ice berg. We recommended prosecution for the illegal, but he was deported before it came to trial. The same illegal is now back in the country doing business as usual I was later told by a personal friend of his. Amazing how naive we really are. Granted that is only one out of how many? Did the welfare people who were Hispanic natural born Americans lie to me and not know what they were talking about? I do not hate Mexicans. We have an illegal problem and are not honestly dealing with it by hollering discrimination.
