Yesterday on ABC's Good Morning America, Coulter said, "[I]f I'm gonna say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot." She has previously called Edwards a "faggot." In 2003, she wrote a column claiming that John Edwards drove around with a bumper sticker saying "Ask me about my son's death in a horrific car accident."

That in no way excuses her remarks about his dead son. That is perhaps the lowest comment I have ever heard by a pundit. I am surprised neither parent didn't physically attack her for that remark.
She also shows she has no real skills. Won't even try to write a column without using ridicule and hyperbole. She as much as admits that she doesn't know how to speak in a civil manner. Saying that Mrs. Edwards is asking her not to write or speak at all. No such words ever came out of Elizabeth Edwards. And what a sexist comment as to why it was Mrs. Edwards who was confronting her and not John. Criticize her if you must be Mrs. Edwards is one strong lady.
LMP, I just don't see how you can support Coulter, not this time, she is so clearly in the wrong. Not a foot to stand on.

I would hope a guy's wife would defend him against the accusation he was a "faggot". And the insinuation that he has used his son's death for political gain should make any mother madder than hell.
It would also seem unseemly for someone who is a presidential candidate to have to address someone on Coulter's level. He has made mention of her comments but I think he is right to basically ignore her. Mrs' Edwards had apparently had enough. This wasn't a scheduled event although Matthews may have known in advance that she would call.
She does have her right to free speech but couldn't she use that right for something constructive? Nothing is gained from her level of discourse, nothing. As I once emailed Rush Limbaugh and asked "in what meaningful way has your show contributed to the betterment of America"? Of course he chose not to respond. I suppose Snerdly took care of that one.

Maybe "supporting" isn't the best term, but luv was certainly trying to explain away or excuse what Coulter said.
As far as Edwards "standing up for himself", that is odd coming from someone who "luvs her prez." Who in history has hid behind more surrogate attacks than Dumbya? NO ONE!!! From having surrogates make charges about Ann Richard's staff being "full of gays" duing the Texas gov campaign, to charges of McCain being "anti-military" in the 2000 primaries, to the "swift-boating" of Kerry. At least Elizabeth (who has a personal stake) had the balz to confront Coulter herself instead of using paid attack hounds like dumbya and his lap dog Rove.

Actually, I agree. I think she handled herself very poorly, and did not converse with Elizabeth at all. It was a shoutdown match, with Ann doing most of the shouting. However, the transcription found at the source of this article (thinkprogress) is clearly slanted to the left, and leaves a lot out. For a good video, see http://youtube.com/watch?v=t36TDc8m19A

Coulter - and her 'fans' - have tried to claim that she is "joking" or being "sarcastic" when she says the mean-spirited, demeaning things about people.
I think not ... Coulter has NOTHING to contribute to society. She is the epotime of a bad joke on herself and a poster child for maliciousness and diatrabe.

I've always liked Chris Matthews, but he and Elizabeth Edwards are now my heroes.
The perversion of political debate of the last 15 years has been summed up succinctly in this exchange:
>>>Edwards: â;¦the language of hate, and I'm going to ask you again to politely stop using personal attacks as part of your dialogue.
>>>Coulter: Okay, I'll stop writing books.
Coulter is not stupid, but she tries to slither away from her mean-spirited BS several times, using familiar neo-Fascist propaganda tactics--also seen on Netscape:
1) Try to talk over your opponent.
2) Try to change the subject to divert attention from your own actions. (Whatever happened to that famed "personal responsibility"?)
3) Misstate your opponent's position.
4) Lie.
5) Portray yourself as the victim.
Kudos to Matthews and Edwards for not letting her get away with it.

Watch him on court TV next time he comes up for parole. He is definitely more articulate and intelligent than Coulter. As if that's not sick enough.

I should stop talking about Ann Coulter's sexual preferences and just say it would be better if she died in a terrorist attack.
Remember that all we had to do fo this comment is replace John Edwards with Anne Coulter so all her ho's can tell what the shoe is like when it's on the other ****** foot.

Get back in the kitchen wench and bring me a beer. All joking aside though. As a poster above alluded to, Don Imus gets fired for being insenitive, but this woman goes beyond insesitiveness and right into hatespeak. Yet all the cons come flocking to her defense. She needs to be forced to change her name to Rosie O'Coulter. I guess that in the Con party you can have an IQ of 90 and get elected to the presidency or become a pundit, be the VP, or secretary of state. Fantastic.

Why didn't John Boy just channel the kid? But he sent his wife out to do his dirty work because if she would have been called on the carpet for her statements, she would have fell back on the 'cancer victim'. Meanwhile the left can make all the comments it wants unabated about those on the right.

We should all give up on this idea that Republicans and Democrats are different. They're like two sports teams. They have different fans but they basically do the exact same things. The only way to fix the problems in this country is to introduce some real competition into the farcical election process. Unfortunately, the "ruling" parties have created an institution where it is very difficult to run and almost impossible to get elected and if you are not in one of the two camps. It will have to be a grass-roots effort. Power to the people!
