Americans would be forgiven for thinking there's a major debate underway in Washington over whether or not the U.S. should leave Iraq. The Senate is halfway through two weeks of fierce fighting over setting timelines, enforcing benchmarks and generally trying to pressure the White House to reduce the number of American troops there. There is no debate. The oil companies do not have control of the oil and the 180,000 no bid contract workers need to be there to line Halliburton's, Caci, Titan, etc. pockets

This has to be the most cynical op/ed regarding the early withdrawal issue. ...And I'm in complete agreement with the author.

The so-called debate is indeed more about politics than anything else.

Unless nine Republicans bolt to the Democrats side, nothing changes. And if the bill, any bill won, and was vetoed, it would take 67 votes to override a veto. So Lugar, Snowe, Hagel, Warner, and four more could turn on the President, and he still wins. Thank God.

Well, According to Bush it was God who told him to launch this Iraq invasion. I guess by 2008, we will know wither 1 -- How accurately Bush hears the spoken word of God or 2 -- How much God understands about military tactics.

If the predictable debacle continues unabated, my vote is Bush is a poor listener.
