On July 13, 2007, I visited Section 60 of Arlington National Cemetery, where the bodies of American soldiers killed in Iraq were freshly interred. Afterwards, I headed across the street to the Sheraton National Hotel, owned by right-wing Korean cult leader Sun Myung-Moon, to meet some of the war's most fervent supporters at the College Republican N

Right, I could not stomach more than 5 minutes of this schlock. Thanks for an eye-opening view. Our colleges and universities are cranking out automatons as fast as they can. Where does one enroll for neo-con U?

That was pretty disturbing, almost like the grooming of the Jesus Camp kids.

I loved when they were each asked why they weren't over there fighting. Pathetic excuses comparred to their passion of thinking this war is right.

A frightening new up and coming crop of future politicians perhaps. another reason we should get Bush and Cheney OUT and hold them responsible, we need to show these young people what is acceptable for America, and what isn't. How will we do that if things continue on the same path as it is now?

I'm a bit confused. Isn't college the place our young people go to become more liberal?

If, as you say, universities are cranking out conservative automatons, what of the generally accepted theory that more education has a direct correlation with more liberalness?

With a son about to complete ROTC, this DISGUSTS me. ChickenHawk Dick Cheney got 5 deferments in the Vietnam war he soooooo supported. Bush got his dad to get him into the Texas Air National Guard (back then--when we had a draft, that was draft dodging. The National Guard NEVER got called up). And even then, he didn't bother to show up for duty.

Not much has changed in the ChickenHawk roost, has it.

Obviously, to the Republican core national service (outside that which brings you into contact with money-spewing lobbyist) is for little people. Bring back the national lottery draft or a national service requirement for able bodied Americans. Make it clear to all these ChickenHawks that if they lust for war, they themselves may end up fighting it.

Don't say the National Guard was never called up during the Viet Nam era. I was called to active duty for 3 days during the Newark Riots 1967, slept for 2 days on the sidewalks of Springfield Ave. Thats what the NG should be doing stemming local problems

Wow. You would say that about someone who ACTUALLY defended our country in battle and support draft dodgers and millitary no shows.

            You deserve Bush.

hamy you mentioned draft dodgers and military no shows.

hate to say it but republicans are not the only ones.

bill clinton was a draft dodger/no show which is a felony.

he was the only president charged with this felony.

thank jimmy carter for his pardon

my point is. politicians look out for one another regardless of what they did. both parties are guiltyof this.

if anyone runs this country into the ground it will be both parties. thats why both parties makes it very difficult on minority parties for major positions.

so you people out there need to take off your blindersand expand.

Is this what the English language has come to under the current regime? Wounded in battle now means cut&run. What a stunningly stupid argument you make.

Did you consider the possibility that Murtha's actual experience, as opposed to the Bush/Cheney/Young Republican's wet dream Captain America fantasies, might make him a little more prudent when the useless expenditure of American lives is the issue at stake?

Yes. Did consider. And, yes, he's clearly prudent... like Neville Chamberlain was. Which was prudent in the short run, but enormously imprudent in the long run. Luckily Murtha does not have the influence that Chamberlain did.

So you are heading down to the recruiting office to sign up today?

              No?

              What a surprise.

At least the two you mentioned served this country in the armed forces.

Kind of makes you wonder about the "Support the Troops" stance they always take when they aren't backstabbing our nation's veterans.

As much as I would like to see those kids in Iraq, I still would not support the draft. That meeting was absurd. The conversation about abortion, immigration, and why they would not stand and fight in the war they so strongly support.

How about a draft just for the children/grandchildren of elected officials? Start with Chelsea Clinton and Jenna Bush.

This is, after all, being billed as "the fight of our lives".

I don't get it. It's like me walking around with a camcorder asking people if they are for or against the genocide in Darfur, and if they say against, then I ask them why they don't go over and do something about it. Frankly, the comment of the war being fought by underprivileged people is offensive. The majority of people in this war are middle class citizens....and many have their bacehelors and masters degrees (at least in my branch). Furthermore, I would not expect a person in college(of either party affiliation) to drop everything and join the army. Even I waited until I graduated before enlisting...that's just common sense.

I'm completely convinced that Republican Party is made up of people incapable of critical thinking, scared sh1tless sheep. They will blindly follow the propaganda wherever it leads them without question. These are people that are seriously flawed. They are the rejects of the rational world.

Tom Delay: "I contend [abortion] affects you in immigration. If we had those 40 bil-million children that were killed over the last 30 years, we wouldn't need the illegal immigrants to fill the jobs that they are doing today. Think about it."

And I'm completely convinced that far worse automatons are created by liberal professors at state funded schools. These professors are beyond flawed. They are part of a system that uses every advantage they can to create as many like-minded liberals by encouraging group think in the classrooms. It is even happening in grade schools where most "mock elections" are simply exercises in how to vote for a Democrat.

They're a culture of overbearing self importance, who assume they are 'superior' to others. This view into their 'younguns' arrogance, shows that they see those 'beneath' them as necessary to do the dirty work while they flit around feeling oh so special. We are becoming a society of 'class' structure, and if we don't knock them off their pedestals, they WILL be using the rest of society to protect their 'interests.'

Max's bumper sticker on his car summed it up best for me "Draft College Republicans."

They support it they should fight in it. Better yet, they support it their children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews if they support it should fight in it too. It they don't support the war, then don't fight.
