Bush creeping up on Reagan as the 'Vacation President' »
Posted by: TechnologyExpert 1 year agoDon't get me wrong, all of Congress is on "recess" right now, as is typical in August. And of course, the Iraqi Parliament is on "recess" as well. But Ronald Reagan has held the dubious record of the most vacation days as president, at 436 days, and Bush seems on track to dethrone him, with 418 and counting.

What? Does the author seriously have a problem with the President getting 10 weeks of vacation per year while many workers only get 2 weeks (if that)? He probably gets more than 5 times their salary (including perks), why shouldn't he get 5 times their vacation?
But seriously, does that include weekends and holidays?

Just curious, Have you ever worked an office job..and I dont mean a payday loan collector or a fast food resturant???? I have and I went home from that office more tired than I have ever came home on a normal working job. If you havent done it, do you really know what its about???
Im currently a crap worker at petfood plant but its hella lot easier now than when I was management. Everything has perks. My perk now is that I get to use my after hours really working around the house. Back then....I was just literally brain dead.
And to the negs I gave on this thread...same thing just stated

I used to work in an office and in a few weeks I'll be working in one again and I don't know what you're talking about. Office workers don't deserve more of a break than anyone else. And by the way, I work in software development, not a payday loan collector or a fast food restaurant.

Records are made to be broken! Old Dumbya will shatter Ronnie's vacation record with many days to spare! Mission accomplished!

Yeah, such 'hard work' for W and Congress ...
Our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan do NOT get the month of August 'off'.
Our soldiers are working in 100 degree temperatures, carrying many pounds of heavy equipment, risking their lives, fighting and dying EVERY DAY while Bush goes fishing and horse-back riding and Congress goes boating and camping and whatever.
But I am sure that no one in Congress, or Bush or Cheney, have any guilt feelings whatsoever.
Out of sight, out of mind ...

Right ... they "pop in" for a couple of days once in a while to see how things are 'going'.
And ... that is NOT the point!
Members of Congress get $165,000 salary PLUS expenses. They BARELY work an actual 5-day work week, and they get 2-3 months 'vacation' every year.
The average salary of an active-duty soldier in Iraq or Afghanistan is from around $14,000 (less than one year experience) to around $48,000 (have to have 12 years of experience to get that much).
Soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan are now serving FIFTEEN STRAIGHT MONTHS before they get any 'time off'. And, that 'time off' has been SHORTENED.
Soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan are RISKING THEIR LIVES every day, could be killed or wounded or maimed at ANY TIME.
Tell me - how are members of Congress 'risking their lives' for the wars?
So PLEASE do not cry me a river about a few Congressmen who drop-in on Iraq now and then!

You must give some leeway to the Republican hawks, like Reagan they need extra vacation perks. Why you ask? Ronald needed a course in diplomatic policies with Nancy tutoring, George needs Laura's help. Just maybe his speech will improve so please, give the man as much vacation as needed. Can it get worse with him gone from Washington D.C.? Reminds me of quiet time for the rest of us.

Ronnie didn't have to clear a lot of brush in Bel Air. He also probably would not have used it as cover for illegal immigrants.

That doesn't suprise me. I believe it would have been better for us all if they had both just taken vacations for the entire time they were in office. The country would be in better shape overall, and in Bush's case, there would be thousands of people alive today who instead have been killed as a result of his actions and policies.
Just as footnote, I also believe that it was when Ronald Reagan took office that this country began heading down the wrong path. At least from the perspective of this 54-year-old.

Really if Cheney is really running the show, what's the difference except for our tax $ paying their salaries. With all their free room and board, medical, food, all the perks, I think these people should get paid at the end of their term, and that is determined by how well they did their job.
Don't follow the constitution-you get written up-deductions, vacation time taken above 1 week for every year served- deductions,
I realize the $ they recieved is a drop in the bucket comparred to all the other ways they recieve $, but still, $ seems very important to them. Also we should make sure their are NO conflicts of interests when it comes to doing their job serving America..that is their ONLY job while they are in office.

It seems when they 'win' the race, they relax, like they've won something. Someone needs to tell them that when you win the presidential race, it means you've been hired for a job, your job and the hard work begin at that moment. It didn't begin when you decided to run. Seems they work alot harder trying to get votes then work running the country.

While your point about Bush-bashing is taken, I suggest that you get your head out of the sand regarding what Bush actually is. Calling him a leader of anything is ridiculous.

Yeah! right on niny!!
How come there aint no Clinton bashin goin on !!
Why when Bill Clinton wuz presdient, we broke new ground in bashin!! WE even got our friends in meedia to bash him ever single night on TV.
Remember White Water? Yup, a right wing invention that we got meedia to mention ever single night.
We got media to go on and on bout Bills letter to git outta bein drafted too.
But we wouldnt let our media enterprises bash Bush. No Way!!!
In a way, its kinda amazin how timid everbody is in bashin Bush - compared to Clinton.
Well, I guess since we took all their media, the only place left for liburals to bash bush is in small, independent, user driven places liek Netscape.

ningyo: -whoever he is or wherever he is..the president is never really on vacation--he's still the leader of the free world just not in the white house
Well you fooled me with this one, seems his brain was on vacation on 9/11 in that school room for awhile, seems to me he was on vacation when Katrina hit and as for the leader of the free world????LMFAO He is your leader, the free world told him what they thought of his brilliant plan for Iraq, so don't try to pawn his sorry ass off on us he is yours, all yours and you can keep him till 09 then he will probably move to Paraguay.
But you did have a little insight in your statement when you said "whatever he is" How true, just what is he?

Some people are still under the impression Bush is president, LOL. It doesn't matter how much time he takes off, cause Cheney and Rove are running the country. Everybody in their right mind knows Bush is the puppet and Cheney is the puppetmaster.

This guy DESERVES to be bashed. He was given carte blanche by the American public after 9/11 to do just about anything he wanted in the mistaken belief that he would do the RIGHT thing for our country, and look at what he has done instead! He can STAY on vacation as far as I'm concerned! To paraphrase a song, "His mind is on vacation, but his mouth works over time!"

Oh what would we do without simple minds, including the leaders of this planet. If its not raping the working mans money its rapeing the working mans life. Here's to another Mansion on the hill. LET SOME OF THE HOMELESS of the world STAY THERE! In session, OPEN BITCH SESSION, And the big dog takes vacation to ignore it! But, we always have the court system, Probably The largest money making adventure some PHD Wannabe Politician ever came up with. It helps the rich and crushes the poor. The only winners most of time are the lawyers and judges I believe they should all take vacation more often to save the little people some money.

The job of President is 24/7 He's never really on vacation. I want my President to have as much as he needs. Why is it that; 1. we don't hear a negative word about a Clinton vacation? 2 why does 'government' have to work ALL the time? All they do is cost us Money; find more ways to raise our taxes and give earmarks to their friends with our MOney..

Maybe it just takes Republicans less time to get the job done then it does Democrats. thus leaving more time for R & R. Actually, the President is never on vacation. His job goes woth him where ever he goes. Stop whinning.

Goppy,
Your biggoted rhetoric is offensive.
Would you approve of:
Mocking African Americans with ebonics?
Mocking Asian Americans with similar tactics?
Mocking Hispanic Americans with similar tactics?
Mocking Gay Americans with similar tactics?
Your demeaning antics are nothing less than vile and hateful.

Oh, yeah, I'm sure Bush is sweating every day in over 110 degrees heat with heavy equipment strapped to his back and arms and hips, knowing that he could be blown up or wounded or maimed at any time.
That is what our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan are going thru, and they are working FIFTEEN MONTHS STRAIGHT for anywhere from $14,000 to $40,000 a year for it.
Bush will probably work just about as hard this August to fight terrorism as he did in August 2001 ....

And this is why the poor stay poor and the rich get richer in this country. because the leaders of this country give more to themself than to the people that need it the most.
