Leahy will go forward with contempt citations and send them to the White House, the National Security Administration, and other parts of the Executive Branch. Bush needs to learn that he and Cheney are not above the law. Their underlings will be held in Contempt of Congress. Eventually, the judiciary will need to decide just how much material is truly a matter of "National Security."

"Leahy also questioned whether the Senate would again reauthorize laws that expand the government's authority to spy on foreigners without the subpoenaed information."

I always thought being Liberal about things was being open minded .
Seems Republicans just want things their own way and they don't want to help anyone unless they make money off it. Kind of like communism, their way is the only way.
I also like how Repulicans like to use the old comment, "democrats spend". I guess they do, but to help our own out in this country.
Republicans spend just the same, only they give it to their own friends in business and everywhere else in the world.

I'll try again:
Go get 'em, boys! Yes, many are tired of the arrogance and stonewalling of this White House as they essentially ignore the subpoenas. If all is on the up and up, they have nothing to fear, right? And, as David said, we need to find out how much is legitimately "executive privilege" and national security". May Leahy get them to testify in order to justify their actions. Many would not be disappointed if indictments were to follow. :-)

Leahy's not going to do a damned thing. They think we're STUPID, and will be placated with their rhetoric.

I have to disagree. I think it's all a generational thing. Leahy is from the Silent Generation he's not a Boomer. Boomers are the ones with all the indecisiveness. He'll press with all he's got, whether he gets any opposition or backing will be another story.

Jordan, I agree with your level of cynicism. We have little evidence from this Congress that he will do anything more than bloviate. However, we have to hold Congress accountable for their inactions. We have to call, write, fax, and email your members of Congress and encourage them to back Kucinich and his impeachment bill. We need to back Senator Leahy and his efforts to uncover the truth. We need to vote out the bums who occupy the White House.
Congressmen and Senators will not listen to us individually, but they will hear us if we speak in unison.

Impeach? For what? Hating Bush is no reason to impeach.
Bush just has too much guts to protect his country and maybe Leahy feels inadequate with him in the White House.

Shall we list for you his high crimes which make him not only impeachable, but also removable from office? Shall we begin with lying to Congress? How about abusing Executive Privilege and impeding the work of Congress by deliberately telling White House staffers not to talk with Congress? How about obstruction of justice? How about conspiracy on all these counts? He is up to his eyeballs in guilt.

Lying to Congress? He had the same info at the time he gave it to Congress, in fact, they all believed Saddam had weapons of mass destruction since Bush I. Only now that the war isn't going as well as they hoped are the dems back-pedaling pulling the troops funding and screaming for them to come home. Great. That's a great message to send the terrorists. Some IED's and they'll run scared! How do we protect this country then?
White House staffers DO NOT HAVE TO talk to congress just as congress staffers don't have to talk to the white house!
The executive branch is separate from the legislative and when fighting a war it tends to get secretive for a reason! Not all of the wars successes and failures can afford to be posted on the front page of the New York Times!
None of what you say can be proven. If it could, the dems run congress and they'd have the votes. Period!

Locky go read 'Armed Madhouse' then come back. Just because the media won't investigate and report doesn't mean crimes haven't been committed. Congress is full of wimps who are afraid of losing their jobs. Bush is a criminal and Clinton wasnt' a prince either. The Republican congress cut a deal when they had the real goods on Clinton (Ryadi Family money) because Bill had some stuff on them too (Koch Family money) so they settled for a B.J. Hey, thats how the game is played. And we're played for chumps.

----Impeach? For what?
It has nothing to do with hate. He die not satisfy the law.
SEC.3.UTHORIZATION FOR USE OF UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES.
(a)AUTHORIZATION. The President is authorized to use the Armed Forces of the United States as he determines to be necessary and appropriate in order to
(1) defend the national security of the United States against the continuing threat posed by Iraq; and
(2) enforce all relevant United Nations Security Council Resolutions regarding Iraq.
Iraq was not a threat and there was never any proof to the contrary.
President Bush did not allow the final round of UN weapons inspections to be completed even though we had signed on to SCR 1441,(the relevant UN SC resolution.)
Futhermore, by using the emotions we all felt on 9-12-2001 to futher the PNAC agenda in the ME, he has sullied the memory of those lost on 9-11. To me that's his biggest crime. Using the memory of 9-11 to invade an oil rich Arab nation that did not attack us.

Sorry, but nobody set the bar lower than Bill Clinton. He dodged the draft and then protested the war in Russia. He wouldn't have even been eligible to become president if Jimmy Carter didn't pardon him.
Bush, for his service, gets a pass....easily.
