                As my generation did in Vietnam, these men and women fought honorably, and died bravely and sometimes horribly, defending themselves, protecting their units and their comrades, and doing their damndest to see that the highest possible number of them would survive their tours and return home. They followed orders and obeyed rules of engagement...and gave up their lives willingly as a matter of personal honor. I support and honor our troops in all branches of service. Their Commander in Chief is a common liar, thief, and criminal.

                History, as it did in Vietnam, will reveal in vivid detail the corruption, greed, lies and deceit that the criminals in the Bush Administration have perpetrated on this generation and on our once proud republic.

                The Bushtapo would do well to find a country that does not extradite and flee there as soon as possible after the next election.

                  Hopefully we have all learned from Vietnam and our troops will not be blamed for the actions of those that sent them. The people that sign up to protect our countries are not some piece of machinery just to be used at the Presidents whim but are given in trust that they will be used with the best interest of the country they took an oath to defend in mind. Clearly that has not been done so their loyalties must be to each other in the field and may they all be watched over by god, angels or the man or woman next to them.

                    Very well said. When you're a soldier, you're required to follow orders regardless of whether you want to or not. Therefore, any complaints we have about this war and what's being done with it need to be directed to the commander in chief.

The truth is the entire administration is guilty of everything from complacency to covering up the evil deeds Bush and his top people have done, I say if Bush and the republicans are guilty the democrats are equally guilty of not upholding their oaths of serving the best interests of their country. It's not just one person that let us down, but an entire system that failed the country and to stay on topic, the men and women who serve it. Lest we forget their sacrifices for no reason other than greed.

          I hope you realize that neither the Democrats nor the Republicans are going to bring them back home. They are all the same. I get sick and tired of these politicians going from state to state saying what each state wants to hear.

          Campaigning should be against the law. Let a group come up with a list of hot topics and let each candidate state what they believe is the best way to solve them. Post it and let let the citizens decide from that. This gets rid of politicians speaking out both sides of their mouth and eliminates campaign funding.

            In a typical campaiagn there is a speech by the candidate who then fields some soft-ball questions from placed supporters. They should be made to stand in front of an open forum of their constituents and answer questions posed by the people who elect them. Even if it takes days, they should field questions about the laws they pass, and even the votes they miss. They should be made responsible to the people who elect them on a local level. And their removal should be made easier should their corruption become evident.

          Hans Blix and Joe Wilson both told the administration that there was no evidence of weapons of mass destruction. The administration disregarded the opinions of experts and "sexed-up" the info as pointed out in the Downing Street memos. WMDs was a lie plain and simple. Even if they did have any WMDs, it was Rumsefld who sold them to Saddam in the 80's. People like Rumsfeld should be stopped before they go selling to dictators again, but that's another issue. We went to Iraq because of a lie, which was made possible by 9/11, which was brought to you by the people at PNAC.

          Funny how not one leading Democrat candidate has a plan to get troops out of Iraq. In fact everyone I listened to said we will be there for at least 5 to 10 years. I have to agree that Bush miscalculated the idiots in the middle east. Most want freedom, and democracy, but a few are bound and determined that they want to be top dog. It is all they understand! So bash Bush all you want, it does not matter. How do we fix the problem? Keep in mind the middle east is important to us, so just walking away will not work.

            i agree we will be there a long time. draw down to 30-50,000. establish a FOB to keep supplies and equipment. i think it will be decades. iraq is a new DMZ.

            fix the problem? how do you herd bees back in the hive after you've whacked it with a stick?

            i'd say stop acting unilaterally. get an understanding of the people and the culture. enlist friends and allies. hire more farsi speakers and translators. stop messing with the internal affairs of other countries, or do it right so that they don't find out and get pi ssed at us. establish a fair and consistent foreign policy. use our own elder statesmen like lee hamilton (who just got that hostage released)and james baker (who i can't stand because he stole florida in 2000 for bush inc.) or george mitchell (success in ireland).

            the people in charge now really have no idea what they are doing. they don't know history, the culture, strategy, negotiation or diplomacy. they are dangerous.

              Personally I only see one solution. I think we are going to have to segment the Iraq into three sections. I don't think these people can live harmoniously together anymore than the Jews and the Muslims can and I don't think we can walk away and watch them kill each other either.

              BTW, if you wack a bee hive with a stick - Run like hell and wait them out. It will settle down. The funny thing is the middle east is not a bee hive. A bee hive is very harmonious if left alone. The middle east is not.

The fact is, no one... and I mean NO ONE... from the president on down wants Iraq to be American soil. That's where you folks get your paradigms all mixed up.

              BTW, your 10,000 dead troops statistic was the number that was figured (both inside and outside the administration) to take out Saddam's standing army.

              I would posit that if the Middle Eastern cauldron were left to bubble on its own, it would eventually claim far more than 10,000 dead American troops per year. Neville Chamberlain left the European cauldron to bubble on its own in 1938 and that mistake cost 40 million troops and civilians prematurely dead.

                They are a different people, from a different culture, with different morals and a different way of life. We cannot storm into their home and impose our way of life upon them. Let them live how they are going to live, leave them alone, and don't worry about them. If they want to kill each other and be at war, that's their choice. It's not our job to police the globe in accordance with our beliefs.

                Let's say you see a mother disciplining her child by spanking him, and you totally disagree with this method. You contact the authorities, one thing leads to another, and the child is taken away from his mother. You think it is best for the child because in YOUR HOUSE, that is not ok. However, in THEIR HOUSE, it's perfectly normal. Now the child has to grow up without his real mother around. Other parents who discipline their children the same way hear about what you did, and begin to dislike you. They deface your property, etc...

                Do you see where I'm going with this?

                  I do see where you are going with it. The problem is that, while you say they are different people of a different culture, you fail to acknowledge that the vast majority of them do not have the means to express or actualize what they really want as we can.

                  I agree that it is not our job to police everywhere on the globe. However, there are certain hot spots that require pre-emptive policing due to their strategic nature. The fact that these spots are sitting on black gold and the cash flow that emanates therefrom (and the mischief that that cash flow misdirected can cause), they do require our attention. Keep in mind that Israeli's knocked out the Osirak reactor in 1981. It's no secret that Saddam had tried to re-constitute what he was attemting to do prior to 1981. Saddam, at the very least, was playing the dangerous game of maintaining a WMD bluff, figuring we wouldn't call it, while at the same time, trying to keep his regional enemies at bay with it.

                    You are not accepting the fact that these people have the same rights as you, an American, to live as they chose and be safe from outside interference in the running of their country. How can you say the vast majority of them do not have the means to express or actualize what they really want as we can?

                    Just because the put priority on different ideas and things doesn't make you better or more important than them. If the wanted to refuse to sell any oil to the US they would be within their rights, imagine if some other country tried telling the US what to do with it's recourses.

                    As for Saddam trying to obtain nuclear weapons lets think back and pretend he had them in 2002, would there be US troops in Baghdad right now? Of course not and how many people would still be alive right mow because the US would not have invaded Iraq would they?

                      I can say they don't have the means to express and/or actualize very easily. Many on your side of the aisle are quick to point out that ours at the top do not understand their culture while you assume the "man on the street" there has the same right of free expression without retribution that we have. Talk about cultural blinders!

                      The U.S. does not need to buy Iraqi oil specifically. We could care less. There is a vast oil market out there. What we don't want is cash flow accruing to those who would most readily do us harm... and those who would use that cash flow to forcibly acquire yet greater portions of the supply side of that market. Saddam clearly demonstrated that he would do that. If he could, others clearly could (and may yet) as well.

                      Is your last paragraph to suggest that the world would be a better place if Saddam actually had nuclear weapons in 2002?

                Neville did the right thing, if he had gone to war after Munich Germany would have won over western Europe in no time. Some times you must pick what day to fight on and which battle to fight, Iraq was a bad mistake. All people in the world have the same rights and freedoms, don't believe the media propaganda that freedom is something the US can dish out like candy, only from defeating ones oppressors can we gain freedom and all that happened in Iraq is they traded a bad situation for a worse one.

                  There is no historian that would agree that Neville did the right thing. And, in this case hindsight truly is 20-20. Even Hitler knew he had bet the whole farm on that bluff. Had Chamberlain stood up to Hitler and committed troops to back it up, we'd be looking at a very very different historical track... and maybe discussing Chamberlain's un-neccesary bellicosity today.

        History lesson for you, Japan did attack the US as you know so that triggered WW2 because Japan had an alliance with Germany. It was Germany that declared war on the US and chances are if that had not happened the US never would have declared war on Germany as many rich industrialist's were very sympathetic to the Nazis.

That all of this men and women, real human beings, as real as you or I, with friends, parents, loved ones, have died in the foreign land in a war of aggression. And that more will die tomorrow and day after tomorrow and even after that until the war has ended.

    The families and friends of these sacrificed boys and girls have lost them forever because the current administrations policies and something like this is needed to remind all people of the human cost their greed has taken on the country. I only hope someone you love has not been included among the victims of their hate and greed. Even though I am Canadian I still feel because I comment on the war in Iraq that I have a obligation to look at every face and wonder what they were like and how they may have suffered. Even if it were just one picture it would be a wast for all the good we in the west have obtained would you not agree?

      i know how some nights i lay awake thinking about stuff like my brain is a rat on a wheel. most of it is piddly stuff that there really is no need to worry about. i mean if you have your health what worries do ya have?

      anyways, imagine if your actions...your decisions...has led a country of 300 million people into a quagmire halfway around the world with what hundreds dying everyday. i can't imagine how much that would weigh on me. you can make damn sure i'd be burning the midnight oil every goddamn night. i'd be sucking the nuts of my political opponents to get some solution, at least some ideas. and we get nothing out of this whitehouse. no deliverance. invite shillary up to pen ave to get her ideas, ask you father or putin or the freaking grand ayatollah of irayemequatarabia what to do.

      remember how bush used to take the month of august off? he didn't do that this year.
