As of right now it is a four way tie between deathray, stoners, populist and alphagnosis.
Kind of hard to vote only once as half the list are my friends. ;p
There needs to be more categories.

I was thinking about that, the next time taking nominations in the various categories and making a bigger poll with more nominees.

Please consider that in actual polling, they do not use "subjective" research - such as soliciting nominations - on account of you cannot draw generalizations from subjective input and the population sample would be too screwed up while completely lacking the all important randomness and variation elements.
You only can make generalizations from OBJECTIVE data, and even then the results are prone to error. Subjective information only allows you to draw insights that cannot be generalized to a larger population.
You now know absolute basics of conducting objective research.

The word "influential" is the key for me. There are a number of posters who influence my thinking on several levels.
I'd say for overall influence, including quality of story submissions and comments, I'd go with deathray.
That said, there are others I've always paid a little closer attention to, including (but not a complete list):
Bkumm, Beau7890, Edinbug (NEVER FORGET), Goppy, Neo, Aidenag, Tehranchik...there are others, of course.
I doubt those I've mentioned are on my list alone - I've likely a lot of company ;)

Not surprising your list comprises only the most ardent lefties on the forum. Yet another reason such a "poll" is useless other than for fun.
BTW: Edinburg was a pompous jerk who got what he deserved - never forget it ;)

This is fun but I think there are far better stories to talk about on the political affairs of the world than who's the most influential contributor. This should be moved to a new category. Frankly since there is no real prize, but bragging rights, it appears it should be placed under humor or some fun category. My vote goes to Deathray, Technology Expert, Populist, AlphaGnosis(formerly Luvmyprez), Spadecaller, Mozzer, Aidenag, Neophile, TimLoftis, me, Edinbug, and ETProductions. Some of these are former members. Notable mention goes to Tehranchik, DavidHalko, Slate, and Eagle eye. I'm sure there was a few I left out, but it's a tough choice.

You mean Edinburg/Goppy? Edinburg was banished for being a jerk to others, so he can't quite be influential if he no longer is allowed to post, now can he? And his new pseudonym, goppy, is anything but influential.
If this were a true scientific poll, there would be a clear definition of "influence." IN the meantime, I guarantee not everyone agrees on what amounts to influence.
