Two US Army deserters who fled to Canada and sought refugee status on grounds of their opposition to the war in Iraq have lost their bids to have the Supreme Court of Canada hear their cases.

WRONG. Both of you. I personally hope they flee from Canada to either Germany or France. Neither of those countries are in full support of the wrong-headed, stupid decision of our government to go to war on false pretenses. Dennis Kucinich is absolutely right to impeach Dick Cheney as a result.

Seriously, why the fck would you join the military if you don't want to go to war? They signed a contract saying that in return for the government training them, paying them, and putting them through school, that they would answer the call to duty if needed. They should be shot for desertion.

Are you arguing that these two are not deserters? Are you denying the fact that it used to be common practice for deserters to be shot?
What have I done that would classify me as a treasonist? I challenge you to name one thing.

In what way, I disagree with the war as tang knows but he is right, being in the army is not a democracy, you do what you are told, these two didn't and as such broke American laws.
As a Canadian who as a teenager and met many a draft dogger I see Canada sending a message that this country is not a haven and with this decision you can argue or you can argue about the political decision to send these young men to war, but desertion is desertion no matter how you argue

Side note Hanni. He you ever seen any of the stats on war criminals hiding out in Canada? I've seen several stories and they are really high. I figured you being the resident reasonable Canadian I would ask your opinion on this.
I hope you're right though. Hopefully Canada is starting to crack down on this.

I say let them go to Canada, but they give-up the right to return to the United States. If only that would happen! They can choose any other country in the world to go to also. Maybe they should go to any of the Muslim countries since they obviously don't feel the terrorists are a threat.

I've sort of got to agree that if they signed up for the military then maybe Canada should not be a safe haven for them when they change their minds, but they do have a point when they say they signed up in defense to WMD or the 9/11 incident and later found out that the whole Iraqi story was a lie. Is this not the reason that so many units are being sent back without proper time off, it sort of shows that after the lie came out people got wise and refused to join the military. To me this story shows that these two were only guilty of having faith in their government and the leaders of your country.
