Politics – HR Res 888 purports to support "education on America's history of religious faith." Editorial presents selected videos in support of legislation and against. Included in the article is a sample email calling on lawmakers to oppose the legislation on the grounds that it crosses the line respecting separation of church and state.

Should any politician place their personal and religious affiliations above their oath of office, they are not fit to serve; and it is up to the electorate to prevent their re-election.

I will repeat what I stated in the other thread:

One of the great features of the great American experiment is that we are free to believe - or not believe - whatever we want.

This resolution ignores the pluralism that is truly American. Period.

BTW: I submitted the Email note posted on the site and sent it to my representative. I certainly have no right asking anyone else to do what I, myself, have not done.

For those of us who want to take action and exercise our rights, you can simply paste the email and send it to your representative. The link to contact your rep is also provided on the webpage. Of course, you can also rewrite and submit your own message.

And of course, anyone is free to oppose my position and post those comments here, as well. :~)

I emailed my Rep, California Repukelican Devin Nunes, Visalia fascist. I asked him to vote against the bill because it is anti-American. Of course, however, since Nunes IS anti-American, he will support the bill.

Yes it was, and shame on them for doing that. I have no problem with biblical history being taught in schools, however, AS LONG as it is truthfully and accurately represented throughout its history. But the underlying theme of Norris (and the other guy) is that Christianity is the base of our nation. NO it is NOT. And that means they're after an indoctrination into it, & not a history of it at all.

This subjective pronouncement that we are a 'christian' nation is done without reasonable explanation. What does that mean, exactly? Who will take ownership of what that means? Does it mean the dogma of christian faiths are meant to rule us? Does it mean the simple message of Christ is meant to guide us?

And WHAT would christianity do exactly, to 'help' our nation? What does that mean? I don't think Norris has a clue. It's just rhetoric.

Well what kind of politician or person is the "right kind of Christian" to get elected? Do we now have Christians that are more perfect than other Christians because of type of Church affiliation, ie are Southern Baptists more Christian than Methodists or Catholics etc, or is there a predetermined genetic disposition to become the "right kind of Christian" which naturally enables one, in a Darwinistic sense, to become a politician or a president?

Thank you icono. It is that kind of action that speaks loudest, in my opinion.

I believe in respectful debate and discourse; that's obvious, but it is the responsible actions of an informed electorate that can restore and preserve our constitutional republic and our representative democracy to redress the government. Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.

Without our participation in this process our freedoms will continue to erode, because the zealots and extremist idealogues will take the actions that the silent majority ignores. We have already paid a serious price for that!

It is each of our responsiblities to talk the talk, walk the walk, and to find other travelers to share the toil of tending to our freedoms. We cannot fail if we stand together. IF...

Please don't think our efforts are going unnoticed. In the Republican debates tonight, Mike Huckabee, quickly seized the opportunity to swear allegiance to our Constitution and quoted the preamble. He then quickly quoted the Declaration of Independence to bring in God, stating our inalienable rights. We are being heard around the world, and of all people, the slick Huckabee is listening. Ron Paul rightly pointed out he gave lip service to the Constitution while practicing something else.

Chuck Norris is the number one supporter of Huckabee. Listening to he and his wife's spin on their agenda for the US is interesting, and then contrasting it with the evangelical minister is revealing. This is where the rubber hits the road. A vote for any candidate that supports the idea the US has been or ever will be a Christian nation is not only a violation of our separation of church and state, it is un-Biblical. Contact your representative today.

Declaration Of Independence has these words within it:

"When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation."

The words "Nature's God, & Laws of nature,' clearly speaks to Deist beliefs of many of the founders.

BTW, I just contacted my representative in support of the defeat of this bill. Being a Christian, I select to believe that we are not to involve ourselves as a corporate religion in politics. Another words, it is not our goal to legislate morality, it is a personal choice. Because it is a personal choice, I think our jobs as Christians are to win the world, not force the world to believe as we see fit. We will be "led as sheep to slaughter", but the Bible does not say we should not vote our convictions. To the contrary, it says, "We should render unto Caesar what is Caesars and unto God what is Gods." We live in a nation that protects our rights to freedom of religion. By supporting our rights to freedom of Religion, we guarantee our right to choose as we see fit.

When he came up to wealthy young man who asked him what he must do to follow him Christ told him. Then allowed him to make his choice. He did not say do it. The young man rejected the choice. But as Jesus taght us it was his choice."

Today is the best day to demand the restoration of the constitution for which this government must rely upon to survive or for which this government must fall by the wayside, should it fail to exist for the people and by the people.

If we hold these principles to be true, then we must petition the government that has fallen into the hands of special interests groups and elitists. It is become a self-evident truth that the ruling bureacracy has recruited our federal workers from all branches of the govenrment, abandoned their oaths of office, and are currently delinquent in their duties of serving the people.

Without the consent of the people, it is the right and the obligation of the people "to abolish it, and institute new government,laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."

For that reason, I have petitioned this government and have called on you, partisans and nonpartisans, religionists or secularists, to do the same.

Keep our nation free from religious tryanny and religion free from political corruption.

If people want Bible to be the driving force of their lives, they can do that in the privacy of their homes and in the sanctity of their churches. If you want to teach Bible to your children, do that in those places, and NOT in the schools!

As it is, we have fallen to the 26th place in the world in the quality of our education. We do not need another handicap to pull our children down even further.

Schools and legislative bodies are not the vehicles of any particular religion. Our Founding Fathers knew that very well, looking at what the Monarch being the Head of their Church did to the nation of England, and the wars, atrocities and torture it performed, including slavery.

You can choose to run your life based on faith that does not need logic as its cornerstone. When it comes to governing our nation, including our Judiciary, logic is, should and will be the cornerstone! There is no "if", "but" and "nevertheless" about it.

As a Christian, God belongs in MY heart and what I do in this life is between me and him.Where others get a good way to live life is their business and history bears me out.

How many deaths have been committed in the name of God is uncountable. Even Christian and Jews have slaughtered each other and they have the same one.

We can alert our Senators that if this house resolution 888 ever passes the house and comes to the Senate for passage, they should REJECT IT!

I feel this is a Trojan Horse attempt by religious extremists to bring Religion for Government sanction.

If this bill comes to the Senate for passage, I urge you to use the power of your vote, and your persuasive powers to urge other Senators, to defeat it and put it to pasture.

Agree with sending the letter, but silence is not golden. Drown them in letters because politicians of both parties look at one thing,POLLS to get re elected.Let's see if they can revise this part of history and this is coming from a Christian.

Sorry that I'm about 35 comments too late, I've been asleep, Saint Joseph gave his name to one helluva city!

Anyway I'm just gonna say simply, that I believe him. These people are monsters and they bastardize Christianity into something lesser than it is or should be. I wonder as I sit here, if these people even CARE about the fact that there are other religions out there that deserve equal representation. Whether they believe they are right or not shouldn't matter, if they're gonna teach Christian history affecting our country, then I want to hear how Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist Shinto, Taoist and Wiccan ALSO affected our country. But oh NO you won't hear them talk about that now will you, because they are "right"

and all of those religions/spiritual affinities are "wrong." I wonder, did it ever occur to them that THEIR religion is wrong? Now I'm a guy who believes in God and Jesus so that makes me a Christian, and I'm Catholic by birth, but that doesn't stop me from being outraged at this. Ehh, but NOOOOOO they never consider that THEY'RE wrong, everyone ELSE must be, never mind that others may think the same exact thing about Christianity. The problem is these imbiciles never THINK except for their own selfish selves.
