FTA:
..politicians are much more concerned about their image...
I think the public has readily accepted the media's
attention to style and demeanor as opposed to substance.
The media focuses on conflict between the candidates more
than the issues - it sells and they are selling it to us,
and sadly - we've been buying!
I don't want reality-TV candidates and I don't want
info-tainment instead of news - but I feel we are powerless
to change that situation.
Ron Paul could never be my choice for a number of reasons -
but why do you think he received so much attention from
even those who will not vote for him? He actually said
the unexpected - no congress-speak - no "pat" answers.
It was a welcome change - and see how the media avoided
coverage until the Ron Paul Newsletter revelation?
On that? He's toast whether HE said it or not - he knew
it was being distributed to constituents. No deniability on
that one.

Ron Paul comes close to this, But because he has no special interest funding, and because he flies in the face of what is really screwing up our country, the media ignores him. When did the media take responsibility for telling me who I am going to vote for? The bush administration should have opened everyone's eyes to the corruption built into the system. Why do people cry out for change, then turn aroung and vote the same thing back into office?

The problem with living a long time is that eventually you have seen pretty much everything before. Even Ron Paul, with his advocacy of "strict adherence" to the Constitution, offers nothing new--there have been others who talked that way before, but the Devil is in the details.
Most people who use the Constitution as a starting point are arguing AGAINST change. Certainly that was true of "strict constructionists" in the 1950s and 60s. They were upset by things like the Supreme Court decision in "Brown v. Topeka board of Education." They insisted that the Federal Government was intruding too much on the rights of the people and the rights of the states. An excellent summation of their position is included in Sen. J. Strom Thurmond's famous 24-hour filibuster speech, delivered in opposition to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Similarly, the views of Sen. John C. Calhoun a century earlier called upon the Constitution in defense of slavery.

When I hear Ron Paul speak, I shudder, because in his words I hear echoes of America's racist past--something we should have put behind us long ago. But it goes farther than that. I understand that the world in 2008 is different from the world of 1787, when the Constitution was written, and that the best interest of the people is served by a government which takes a positive role in solving the problems we confront. A President Ron Paul, however, would abandon America's infrastructure, leaving it to private interests to repair, maintain and improve. He would, in doing so, leave us even more vulnerable to exploitation and corporate greed than we are today.
We need a government which will protect the little guy from the more powerful--which will level the playing field for us. Ron Paul is certainly NOT a leader who will do that. Another word for "Ron Paul voter" is "victim."

Those qualities would certainly be nice to see in our national, state, and even local political leadership. Don't hold your breath. :(

I don't see anything that even reeks of cogent in these candidates to tell you the truth...
