The next time somebody asks, tell them the story of Ramzi bin al-Shibh and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. Tell them the story of not just how torture has tainted America's claim to the moral high ground throughout the world, but how it's actively hurt the war on terror. Tell them.

    Hey ... didn't you know? Torture is "a-ok" as long as the person condoning it is not being tortured and is not the administrator of the torture, and as long as it is "out of sight, out of mind"?

    That is the mind-set of those that have bought into the rhetoric from the Bush administration and from the right-wing talking heads.

    FEAR - instill FEAR into the populace and make them paranoid in order to control them, all in the name of "security" and "protection" and "your government knows what's best for you in order to 'protect' you".

      Torture is OK as long as it's not me... well, and not my children... or my wife... or any member of my family, for that matter... and not my dog, either...

        First they came for the communists,

        I remained silent;

        I was not a communist.

        When they locked up the social democrats,

        I remained silent;

        I was not a social democrat.

        When they came for the trade unionists,

        I did not speak out;

        I was not a trade unionist.

        When they came for the Jews,

        I remained silent;

        I wasn't a Jew.

        When they came for me,

        there was no one left to speak out.

          Liberal Calculus 101:

          First they came for the wackos at Waco, and I said that was ok because a Democrat did it.

          Then they wanted to use waterboarding, and I ojbected because I'm a Democrat.

            No matter what we think of the people that we could torture, they are still human. We should not torture because torturing would lead to us being inhuman.
