Olympic Games at China??? »
Posted by: pyderi 4 months, 2 weeks agoHas you must know China isn't a free country and just now started to allow access to wikipedia. Though allowing access to wikipedia is an evolution for their system they amazingly still don't allow access to blogs among other stuff because there's no free speech. China is a regime with recent stories of violation of human's rights. I don't unders

amazing how you took the words right out of my typing fingers.I watched the BBC news this morning. there is a new documentary coming out from a couple that experienced hurrican katrina. (the rescue, etc.)
it reminded me of how much help our country needs. we always give to other nations, always open our borders to them, yet, we cannot even take care of our own.
Dr. Ron Paul wants to bring our money home. clinton, obama and mccain are all members of the CFR. and it seems all this organization wants to do is send billions of $$$ in aid to Africa and other struggling nations. (except USA)

It's up to us also to enable or oppose the support of the
Olympic games. Many Americans complain about China's violations of human rights; but they will be sitting in front of their TV's watching the games and supporting their sponsors.
This will be the first year that I will not watch the olympics.

Who boycotted the Games in Hitlers Germany? I remember that Jesse Owens made him very angry. His superman race couldn't beat a black runner.

Boycott the olympics is going to affect the athletes only. Do you think the communist government cares? They will continue killing people that do not conform to the government lines even if nobody participate in the olympics.
There is a Belgium politician who openly asked his government to boycott the opening/closing ceremony. I wrote an email to him agreeing with his line of thought. However, I suggested him going to the olympics instead and condemn the chinese government behaviour in an olympic publicity event. I think that will be better than boycotting the olympics altogehter.

SC - I'm with you. That China was granted the games has made a mockery of all the games stand for.
I will not be watching ANY of it.....

Then boycott the United States Government, Dell, General Electric, General Motors, and practically any merchandise on the market. If it's not "made in China", then the producers are still doing major business with the Chinese...and let me through a closer neighbor in when it comes to corrupt and abusive governments. Mexico. Cancel all of those Cancun vacations.
'Tis true that economic isolation is a lever. I just wish that we didn't owe the Chinese so much money to cover our human rights successes in Iraq!
My greatest fear is that their 'guests' don't attempt to steal the China...LOL!

Watching the news, or the Wall Street frenzy on the tube in the morning...I feel all humanity is mocked. General Motors has moved Saturn to Mexico to exploit cheap labor. I'm still looking for something at Walmart that isn't made in China.
A five year old was killed, and four other children wounded,(plus two adults, one wounded, one killed), at a children's birthday party in Ft. Worth yesterday. Police say it was automatic weapons fire. AK47 maybe? All of those children and adults should have had their own weapons. It's the American way!
Off topic, I know. But we are so off focus to the real problems, hence, no real solutions. Americans need to take a long hard look in the mirror, we need more than a new coat of paint. The Populist story, "Who are we fighting for?" is a good gut check. The U S did not boycott the German Olympics or anything else before it's (U S) entry into WWII.
Joe Lewis, anyone? Major U S corporations continued to honor contracts during that time.

Good post. For the record I was in Walmart and found some baking ware that was made in the US, it was garbage for the record but then again thats why Walmart had it I think. Garbage in manufactured in every country, it's just less and less stuff is made in the US every year so it's harder to find, I also see crap made right here in Canada as well. It's not where it's made that's the problem, it's we accept such poor quality as normal and don't demand products that last, it's we who need to change.

Somewhere in China they are hearing about Americans complaining about China holding the Olympics and their human rights record and they are laughing because Americas history on human rights isn't much better.

While I didn't find the article particularly well written (no offense intended towards the author), I do appreciate the sentiments and would like to take the time to share my agreement. I was shocked when I first learned the Olympics would be held in an oppressive Communist country such as China. The good news is most rational people seem to feel the same way about the issue, hence the abundance of protests and difficulties with regard to the torch relay.
My greatest desire is that the Beijing Olympics would simply be canceled. Of course, that's not going to happen. But, what can happen is a massive boycott of the Olympics by free, democratic countries such as the United States.
On a side note, I find it ridiculously ignorant for any comparison to be made between the U.S. and China.

Why? People make comparisons all of the time..."you better eat your spinach, there are starving kids in China". We learn by comparison.
I find it extremely ignorant to not have a grasp of our own history, and see where we might want to change some of the parallels.
