There is already a Propeller Chat forum. Why should we join up to a new one that is not officially affiliated to the Propeller site?
Just asking

Okay, I've thought about it some more and I can think of a couple of good reasons to have a forum outside of the Propeller community that talks about Propeller.
It isn't run by the Propeller staff so on the forum we aren't beholden to the TOU of Propeller. Now, the forum has it's own TOU which are similar, but we can run our smack about Propeller without fear of reprisal. I don't think the Staff acts like that, but some people do.
Another good reason is that we can chat with each other on there about topics that are important to Propeller, but that may not be pertinent at the time. Upgrades, things they might do differently, yadda, yadda, yadda.
Just a couple of ideas.

Well, I've gone in to the Propeller chat about eight times and there's never anyone in the room. Why is that?
And when I tried to go into this one, I was told my user name did not exist!

The registration page does not indicate who created and who operates this forum. It announces that it will collect information from me and place a tracking cookie in my computer, but I have no idea who will be able to access that information.
It does not indicate that there is any connection with the management of Propeller. Will Tom Drapeau and James Marcus join this new forum and become more aware of the concerns of Propeller members, or is this simply a place where members will interact outside the Propeller forum, with no apparent prospect of having their concerns addressed by Propeller management and staff? If that is the case, what exactly is the new forum's purpose?
Are any of the members of the "Gang of Four," who have previously indicated a desire to control and direct the direction of the Propeller site, associated in any way with this new site.
As SonOfTheMask says, "Just asking."

I'll answer the last one. Your paranoid delusions of the editors of Propellertalk wanting to "take over", aside, none of the editors of Propellertalk are involved in the Propellerchat forum as far as I know.
There may be some talking going on behind the scenes of which I am unaware between people that know each other on a more personal basis, but I am certainly not involved in the creation of this new site. However, I am a member because I think it's a good idea. You should join too.

Is it your creation alone, or are others involved? Who?
The idea of a forum where Propeller management can "address the concerns of the community" is a good one. But without their participation, I don't think that the new site will be very useful.
With that in mind, I will withhold judgment until I see this site in action. Good luck, msaleem. I hope it woks.

This is great! I love it! Registered, commented, and it certainly is a fresh breath of air. My thanks to all concerned for making this possible. Glad to see the website running a little bit better than the last time I was here. So special kudo's to the staff for they're attention. Have a great weekend everybody! I especially missed all my buds here.

I don't plan to join at this time. I'll explain why, but let me first say that I respect the effort put forth by its creators and I don't impugn their motives in any way.
If I want Propeller's management to "hear" something I have to say then I'll simply Private Message the staff. If Propeller's management team were interested in this kind of forum, as a vehicle to generate ideas or receive constructive criticism on performance or functionality, then it should have an official forum.
When several "conservative" members left and formed a separate site, they were often criticized as simply being engaged in a protracted Netscape (at that time) bitch-fest. That wasn't true. However, I could easily see this new chat forum devolving very quickly into exactly that situation.
Finally, what motivation would Propeller have to "listen" to this new chat forum. Again, I'd rather simply PM James Marcus if there's something I want him to know.

There were different motives and different reasons behind the founding of the "conservative" forum. You know that.
I see this as a good thing, but I hear what you're saying as well. I see this forum as more of a place to brainstorm amongst ourselves with the Staff without taking away from what Propeller is all about.
I don't know, I think it's a good idea. It isn't under the aegis of Propeller for the reason that it will be "freer" and it's set up for the very purpose of talking about Propeller, so we won't clog up the site with talking about Propeller while trying to do what we all come here for.
I see your point, though as well.

All legitimate points, SOTM. To some degree this forum will overlap with discussions in Propeller comment threads (like this one!) and private communications between the community and the staff. That's okay, I think. I hardly need add that members can still message me or other Propeller staffers with any concerns.

My number one vote is for a way to reverse a Positive or Negative vote when you accidentally click the wrong button. It seems to the web developer that it shouldn't be a great stretch to include that in the 5 minute editable time for the message.
Number two is a way to delete a post when you accidentally double post or when your post somehow mysteriously appears out of the proper thread order. Again, it would be fine if that was only during the 5-minute editable period.

I suggest upgrading Propeller. The cost would be miniscule by Time Warner AOL standards. Do they want to get rid of the Propeller blog?

This new forum has my full support. I think it is a great idea that has perfect timing. It can serve as an alternative venue for posting ideas about Propeller, without putting such stories on this site.
Thanks msaleem for taking the initiative to put this site together.
