FTA:
"As I listened to Senator John McCain's remarks about the economy this week, I heard more of the same Republican policies that George Bush has brought us for the last eight years," Dean said in the Democrats' weekly radio address.
Among those policies, Dean said, are "privatizing Social Security, denying our children health care, adding $8 trillion in new deficits, no plan to turn our economy around or help people keep their homes."
If we have 4 more years of what we have endured for the last 8, the majority of Americans will be homeless, bottom line.

So, Dean thinks tax, tax, tax is gonna help? I've not seen a viable plan outlined by either Dem candidate.

If he makes a quarter of a million, he should pay more than a man making 50,000. That's the only way we can keep the little man from biting the dust, the rich don't see that though.
Along the same lines! I watched The View the other day, I love Whoopi Goldberg, but MAN i think she's a con. That woman came from such humble beginnings, was even on welfare before she got her break in showbiz, NOW she's complaining about paying taxes on what she makes. Her words, "I am being punished for doing well for myself".. NOT TRUE! she's being taxed according to her income. When i worked, if i did a lot of overtime, i ended up in a higher tax bracket, so i paid more taxes... IT JUST MAKES COMMON SENSE!

He's in a differnt tax bracket, like i said! What's so hard to understand about that?
Just like the person making 50,000 is in a different tax bracket than the person who makes 10,000. Don't play stupid, if you're indeed goldstandard, you know all the tricks.

What wrongdoing did an individual making $250,000 (or more) per year commit that he/she should be forced to sacrifice more income than someone earning less? And no, I don't make 250K/year, but I don't see why one who does should be looted any more than you or I.

Why do you look at paying to live in what you profess is the greatest nation in the world as a punishment? I pay taxes, i get nothing back, i don't complain. I have the sense to understand that it actually takes money for this country to operate, apparently you haven't figured that out yet, or you want someone else to pick up your tab, then complain about people on welfare, lol.
The amount of tax is based on how much you make! Should a person making minimum wage pay more than a person making 100,000 a year? You've got common sense, or at least i assume you do, figure it out.

N2N, You are saying that the person who makes more should have to bear more of the tax burden just because he makes more. That is insane. That person making more probably spent a huge amount of money via student loans on their education and deserves to make more to pay those bills off.
"Should a person making minimum wage pay more than a person making 100,000 a year?"
No! That is not the point we are trying to make either. They should both pay at the same rate. Like with the Fair Tax plan.

People who make millions per year are doing so because they live in the U.S. They reap the benefits of living in the U.S. As a result, of course, they should pay more in taxes. If it weren't for the fact that they live in the U.S., they wouldn't be making millions. For the most part, the millionaires have found ways to exploit the lower income people in order to make their millions. For example, Bill Gates got rich off the government first. He applied for and received $millions of free grants from the government and the government paid dearly for his microsoft operating systems. Most millionaires have gotten rich off the government.

Punished? So if someone goes to Harvard or Duke and pays $50,000 per year, that person is being punished as compared to someone who can only attend a community college? The $30,000 per year people would be at that same level regardless where they lived, but that would not be case for the millionaires. If it weren't for the fact that the millionaires live in the U.S., they would more than likely not be millionaires.

Especially since most millionaires have used the government to their advantage and have received free grants from the government in order to become millionaires. The professional athletes in the U.S. would not be millionaires in any other country. As well as the CEO's would never make the millions they do for corporations in other countries. These are some of the example as to why millionaires in the U.S. should pay a greater share.

These days, almost all taxes are already regressive or are becoming regressive. Yet the people who need it the least, want the most from the government.
Income taxes: after loopholes and writeoffs, the rich like Buffet pay less than the average working-class American.
Payroll taxes like SS: capped at around $97K
Sales taxes: as a percent of your income, you pay more taxes the more you use which hits those like the working poor the hardest as they live paycheck to paycheck and a greatest proportion of their income is subject to sales taxes (where they exist like here in my state).
I am so sick and tired of hearing from the fleeced who think they need to stand up and defend the idle rich who are doing the fleecing.
Vote in your own self-interest in November, vote Obama!

Tanglang,
Here's the problem with the fair tax.
A minimum wage earner brings in $5.85 per hour. In a standard work year, that's $11,840.40. Take out 30% of that and the poor slob has to live on $8,288.28 per year or $159.39 per week. That's way below the Federal poverty line and means he must either choose to be homeless or food-less.
Compare that to one born with a silver spoon in their mouth who owns a major corporation and earns $1 Billion a year. Yes, $300 million in taxes is a lot of money, but he has $700 million left over to grab other corporations. He can offshore them to get labor at $0.35 per hour instead of $5.85. His fortune expands till it subsumes everything and our poor minimum wage guy can either accept the $0.35 per hour job or die.
The "fair" tax is anything but fair. It's a Con job from the very wealthy. The wealthiest 1% of Americans now own 50% of everything. But they are selling this "fair" tax crap because they want it ALL.

Have you read the Fair Tax book by John Linder and Neal Boortz? If not you should. Then you should sit down and figure out how much money you would be paying in taxes under the Fair Tax. You'll be surprised. I would have to spend more money than I am currently making to pay the same amount of taxes that I am paying under this bs tax system we have now. Not to mention the fact that the millions of illegals that are currently leaching off our nation would then be paying for the social services they are stealing.

With all due respect, you do not know this for a fact. Do you know Americans wouldn't still be rejected if there was zero illegal immigration? Maybe people get rejected for reasons that have nothing to do with illegal immigration. Have you heard all the horror stories about the VA system? People who have served their country come home from combat in pieces and they're forced to apply, re-apply, appeal, and basically jump through hoops to receive their benefits.
I agree that we need to take better control of how we allow people to enter our country but it's too convenient to blame illegal immigration for all our problems.

Instead of making the legal poor suffer because of the illegal aliens you are so worried about, why not just make all immigration to this country illegal period? Then you wouldn't have to worry about those pesky immigrants stealing from you.
Isn't that better?

The tax plan we have now is fair. I have more income than people who are on min wage, or even people making 30 $ an hour, i pay more taxes than they do, but i don't whine about it all the time the way you all do.
It costs money to live in the US, i realize that, and i don't complain about it every waking breath, i pay my taxes and let it be. Regardless of how much money i have, make, save or spend, when i die i won't take a dime with me, i doubt that you will either.
I just wish to God that conservatives would do their patriotic duty, pay their taxes and stop whining about it adnauseam.

Don't forget, that the poor and middle class will likely pay a larger percentage of their income to taxes than the the wealthy when you take into account property taxes, sales taxes, etc. And it will only be more on the backs of the middle class and poor if a flat or "fair" tax is instituted or some type of national sales tax.

Because if you tax everyone equally, the tiny handful that make hundreds of millions a year soon buy up everything in sight, offshore all the jobs to where labor is cheapest, then move to wherever living standards haven't yet gone down the toilet. You set up dynastic wealth for a few and no opportunity whatsoever for the other 99%.
That is exactly how all banana republics work. If you hate the American Dream, don't trash it for the rest of us. Move to a place like Haiti that will suit you just fine.

You prefer to set up a banana republic system where a tiny handful of uber wealthy end up owning everything including the government and the military, which they use exclusively to ensure that nobody challenges their good thing. 1% own everything in banana republics run by the rules you have been conned into yearning for.
The other 99% work for slave wages with no hope of ever rising out of poverty. That sure sounds like a great motivator for productivity. Just look at how well it works in today's banana republics for evidence of the efficiency it produces. Food wars. Spin on, NoSpinDave.

Look, I am ALL for simplifying taxation. I own a small business, and figuring out how much to send Uncle Sam every year is an enormous headache. But the flat tax or sales tax as the only system of revenue generation is incredibly regressive. It rests almost entirely on the backs of the poor and middle class. It lets the wealthiest gain dynastic wealth and soon dominate everything including government.
This is why no developed nation on earth currently uses such a tax system. This is why the only places its found are in banana republics.
If you've got a good plan for a fiarer, simpler tax system that avoids dynastic wealth, then let's hear it.

The problem, ET, is you argure with facts pulled out of your bung hole.
A) As IF Democrats only want to raise taxes on the top 1% as you say.
B) To suggest 99% of people in America work for "slave wages"...your words....is just the hieght of intellectual dishonesty.
No suprising a liberl extremist like you would make up facts to make his arguement though.
We all know the ultimate goal in America for liberals is a welfare state and a re-distribution of wealth. NOT VERY AMERICAN!

They act like they are a part of the tiny handful of uber wealthy ET, which i seriously doubt, but rather than pay taxes to pay the debts made by their president, they want to whine constantly because our tax system is based on a scale, and doesn't exempt them from paying taxes, then they complain about poor people getting welfare.
Welfare is what they are asking for, exemption from paying the debts of this country.

Spin on, AllSpinDave. Unless you are a seriously good hacker, you have no idea how much money I and the others you claim to have topped pay in taxes. If you have actually hacked into the IRS database, then I appreciate your having admitted it here. We may be free from your spin in the near future.
But since NoSpin seems to mean that every word you utter is spin, I kind of doubt you hacked the IRS or found out enough about the identities of all the Propeller posters to run a D&B report on them. AMd since you are talking about N2N's lifetime, you must be a seer too. Otherwise, how would you know she won't win the $500 million in a Big Game lottery next year?
Still, if you really are among the uber rich, then I can well understand your wanting a system of taxation that pushes more of the tax burden onto the middle class. It would prove that you are not just saying these things out of stupidity, but instead unbrideled greed and immorality.

"Successful"? Successful at what? Choosing the right stockbroker to invest money they inherited from their rich parents? Right wingers sure don't object to punishing millions of American homeowners who face foreclosure after having purchased homes as an investment. But, surprise, investment bankers who flopped get bailed out. Wingjobs need to make up your minds.

Sometimes when I see something obnoxious I can't resist negging or sinking it. It's like when I'm driving 10 mph above the speed limit in the right lane and some bozo in a Pacer comes up on my left, zips in front of me and then proceeds to go exactly 10.5 mph above the speed limit. How rude. It's hard not to get out of that lane, and zoom past them on the left while mouthing the words "You COMPLETE MORON. Whoever gave you a license needs to be WATERBOARDED" before I continue on to the 7-Eleven to get my beer and Doritos. Not that I've ever done that... ;-x
