FTA: "This preemption, buried deep in the text of the bill, would kill all the laws recently enacted by long-suffering states and localities in response to the federal government's unwillingness to enforce its own federal laws on immigration. Gone would be the recent highly effective and highly successful enforcement legislation of Arizona and Oklahoma, the local laws and ordinances of towns like Hazleton, PA, Costa Mesa, CA, Herndon and Prince William, Virginia, and over a hundred other localities, and of hundreds more in process of enactment."
I don't know the accuracy of this guy's interpretation of the pending legislation, but it sounds worthy of investigation and discussion.

I'm not a lawyer, but the whole thing sounds dubious to me. I'd agree with you, ZG, the Supreme Court would likely have a say at some point if such a thing were to be approved.

What a mess, all they are doing in Congress is making it worse. I would like to see a real test of the 10th Amendment.
For most of my life the federal government has been trying to homogenize the states into one big blah. Problem is the states are different and what works in California doesn't necessarily work in Missouri, and so on.
Good post, SonOfTheMask, thanks for posting and sending.

I still feel like I can spot a Missourian from a mile away, so to speak, even in the mid-west. I think its a good thing that you can. Its a bit tougher with other states, but something about Missourians... maybe because I am one. The "show-me" attitude can be strong, sometimes.

"Although labeled "bipartisan", this bill submitted by Rep. Sam Johnson (R-Tex.) is overwhelmingly Republican in its sponsorship (28 out of 31). It appears to be a counter to Democrat Heath Shuler's SAVE Act legislation, a much better, if not perfect, alternative now blocked by fellow Democrat Speaker Pelosi's pro-illegal obstinacy."
I suggest people start writing letters, making phone calls and sending emails.

If you are unsure of what to say, this may help:
"Apparently the Republican leadership in Congress, not having been slapped around enough by the voters in the disastrous 2006 elections for its disconnect with those voters, is hell-bent on continuing to fight the overwhelming majority of Americans who want the illegal immigration problem fixed, not facilitated. Rather than listen to the people, they seem to be more attuned to the special interests whose siren call on Comprehensive Immigration Reform in 2006 led Republicans into the minority."

This is an email address database for members of Congress, click on your state of choice on the left, then click "contact me" on the congressperson's page:

Do you really expect anything different from the idiots who think they are smarter than the dummies who elected them? No matter which is in and which is out, they all are the same. Watch and see. Nothing is going to change unless they are taught a lesson by the voters but who knows maybe they'll grow a spine and do what's best for the country instead of the special interest. I ain't going to hold my breath.
