Politics – Launched in conjunction with today's speech in Ohio, McCain's new web ad, "2013," focuses on what he envisions achieving during his first term in the White House.
In particular, he sees a world in which:
- "The Iraq war has been won. Iraq is a functioning democracy, although still suffering from the lingering effects of decades of tyranny and centuries of sectarian tension. Violence still occurs, but it is spasmodic and much reduced."
- The Taliban threat in Afghanistan has been greatly reduced.
- "The increase in actionable intelligence that the counterinsurgency produced led to the capture or death of Osama bin Laden, and his chief lieutenants," McCain said. "There still has not been a major terrorist attack in the United States since Sept. 11, 2001."
- A "League of Democracies" has supplanted a failed United Nations to apply sanctions to the Sudanese government and halt genocide in Darfur.
contd.
- The U.S. has had "several years of robust growth," appropriations bills free of "earmarks," public education improved by charter schools, health care improved by expansion of the private market and an energy crisis stemmed through the start of construction on 20 new nuclear reactors.
- Democrats are asked to serve in his administration, he holds weekly news conferences and, like the British prime minister, answers questions publicly from lawmakers.
McCain also pledges to halt a Bush administration practice of enacting laws with accompanying signing statements that exempt the president from having to enforce parts he finds objectionable.
"I will respect the responsibilities the Constitution and the American people have granted Congress," the senator said, "and will, as I often have in the past, work with anyone of either party to get things done for our country."
Alpha,
Sounds good but his views on immigration and global warming make me VERY nervous. And his working with the other side, the only apeasement the libs know is to have it ALL their way.
Alpha I listened to McCains speech and have to agree with Dane. I didn't like the immigration part one bit. This will cause people to stay home, or vote for the other side. I sure wish there was a way to wake him up. Short of shaking the shi& out of him.
Dane, you are right! The total uncompromising of the 109th Repug Do Nothing Congress has convinced a lot of Dems not to compromise now that they are in charge... but yet, Dumya keeps getting his way after a veto, so you're wrong. The Dems pulled the part of the first defense bill that would have allowed sadam tortured soldiers to sue Iraq as just one of many examples. Dumya has gotten his funding and his 11 trillion debt too.
Why do you think so many career Congressional repugs are calling it quits? The repugs were so vicious in the 109th Congress, they hate the turn in events!
Hey, it was Newt who came up with the list of derogatives for his fellow Repugs to use when addressing Dems!
What are you smoking AG I want some of that so I can make my bills go away! I have almost $250.000 due and that does not including payroll. Are you for real? The only thing that is working in Iraq is less reporting of the fact. When was the last time you saw a comprehensive piece of news from the corporate stations on Iraq?
Sorry for your financial troubles and you're right, the media covers far less than they should of the good that's going on over there in Iraq. Cat just submitted a wonderful story about it; you should check it out:
It's not my friend AG it's me. And I have to say while that's a good story, it's an isolated incident and I would much rather a broader truth than a needle top feel good story. I think if this were common in Iraq FOX would be all over it. If things were as good as you are suggesting, FOX would be all over it. Since they are not, I am sure my assumption is correct when I say things are not as good as the president and McCain would like to have us believe!
What will scare them even more is if Obama gets elected and implements what his web site says.
Walk out of Iraq and the Terrorists will come here.
Get the extreme left wing bills passed and put the government in great debt.
To try and pay for it taxes will be raised to confiscatory rates.
The kids will see this and wonder how they will earn a living when the Government will want most of their pay for taxes.
How are we going to pay for more of this Republican war? You guys always talk about how much the Democrats spend well at least they spend the money on this country. Our schools are failing, our bridges are failing our health care costs are raising and it gets harder and harder to get health insurance the raising prices of gas electric and food are making it harder to make ends meet but still you want to send our money and our soldiers to the middle east to fight a never ending war that you can't win. Al queada is stronger than ever. The war in Iraq has shifted the balance of power in Iran's favor, our military is broken down and bogged down so they are in no position to respond to any new threats if we need them and Osama is still free.
You shouldn't be afraid of Obama, you should be afraid of the continuation of the current regime.
T, you gave Endo too many questions requiring actual sane, caring thought on his part - he won't answer ya!
Pictures work better for some people.
And cool! Endoscopy repeated one of his favorite lies: "Get the extreme left wing bills passed and put the government in great debt." That gives me another chance to remind him that the current president has grown the national debt from $5.5 trillion to over $9 trillion during his administration.
And Endoscopy also gives me a chance to post this link again to a graph showing how the national debt has grown or shrunk under recent presidents' administrations:
I hope you'll note the party affiliations of the presidential adminisrations listed, Endoscopy--they'll show exactly which party pays for its spending, reducing debt, and which one spends on credit, increasing debt.
If you're really astute, you might notice that debt increased most when the Republican idea that taxes should always be lowered became popular.
Endo, what a damn terrorist lie. "walk out of Iraq and the Terrorists will come here." You don't know that you retard. First of all, we can secure our borders by bringing our military home from Iraq and putting them there. It would be cheaper and a helluva lot safer for them.
Your fear mongering concerning taxes are also faulty. The obvious answer is reducing the size of Government to Constitutional size, doing away with the income tax, and regulating industry and commerce. It is the Republicans in modern history who have raised taxes and the national debt, not Democrats. Under Clinton, taxes fell for the middle class and he balanced the budget. No Republican in modern times has done that. So, tell your kids the truth, and they won't have to wonder how to make a living. It is your lies that abuses children and terrorizes others to follow your stupidity.
"we can secure our borders by bringing our military home from Iraq and putting them there"
NOT possible unless Congress changes the Posse Comitatus Act
"Under Clinton, taxes fell for the middle class and he balanced the budget."
If you believe that you really don't understand who controls the expenditure of money and cuts taxes in Washington - Congress
Go back and take a look at the budgets submitted by Clinton and what was finally passed
Notalgia, you assume I haven't done my homework. All bills and budgets are passed by a consensus of governing. They cannot pass if a President vetoes the bill and Congress does not have the power to over ride it. Bill Clinton, regardless of how the bills changed and formulated, led the country to balance the budget. He gets credit for is leadership. That is what Presidents do. We don't want another leader like GWB in the white house. McCain, in my opinion, is GWB III.
As to the Posse Comitatus Act, it refers to policing for states. It does not refer to protecting our NATIONAL borders. We have the right to over ride any state claim when it comes to protecting our NATIONAL security. Funny how you NeoCons want to quote National security just for your own pet projects like wiretapping and torture, but when it comes to actually protecting our nation and its boundaries, you get all squeamish about states rights.
Ir has nothing to do with "states rights"
It may suprise you but I'd support putting the US military on the border - EVERY mile of it
Under the Civil War-era Posse Comitatus Act, federal troops are prohibited from performing law enforcement actions, such as making arrests, seizing property or searching people withing the borders of the US. No one seems to know how this would apply to troops patrolling the border.
The language of the Act calls for two instances when the Act does not apply; when an exception is expressly authorized by the Constitution, and when Congress expressly authorizes an exception. The first of these provisions has created much confusion in the application of the Act since the Constitution contains no provision expressly authorizing the use of the military to enforce the law.
Do you think Congress would authorize sending US Troops to the border? I don't think they would have the courage to authorize that

"I'm not interested in partisanship that serves no other purpose than to gain a temporary advantage over our opponents. This mindless, paralyzing rancor must come to an end. We belong to different parties, not different countries," McCain says in remarks prepared for delivery in the capital city of Ohio, a general election battleground. "There is a time to campaign, and a time to govern. If I'm elected president, the era of the permanent campaign will end; the era of problem solving will begin."

Sounds just like W saying "I'm the UNITER"! How many times do we have to hear Repug lies before we accept them as what they are - lies!
McCain also told Clinton to get out of Mogadishu and said that torture doesn't give valid results (he confessed to atrocities in N. Vietnam as further proof). But, now he sounds just like Dumya with the lies and flip flopped positions!
I dont know bout this OmegaGnosis business and her wild-n-crazy support for John McCain.
I mean, she never much lieked im before.
In fact, poor John McCain was pretty darn well DESPISED by us Conservatives.
D-E-S-P-I-S-E-D. (period)
Do I gotta remind us all here that in 2000, we craaazie conservatives STRONGLY REJECTED John McCain as our nominee for presdient?
We PREFERRED... a draft dodgin, mediocrity lover, alcoholic, admitted cocaine user ...
Now dont that put our assessment of John McCain in PERSPECTIVE?
Its as if we just aint happy enough with how bad things have got lo these last 7 years.
And I still don't like him! But I love him much more than your dastardly duo. : )
My dastardly duo what.

Meant to give you a pos. It's very warm here in Cali today; guess the heat is getting to me.
If you take a look at who actually worked across the aisle on legislation, you will see that 2 of the 3 candidates have done so - Clinton and McCain
There is no legislative record of Obama doing this - his actions don't support his rhetoric
Then you have not looked nostalgia , because the main piece of legislation passed by Obama into law was a bipartisan bill, where it provides better facility and health care services for wounded and returning veterans, go to the library of congress and look it up. He did this during a Republican congress.
Do you have a link? I'd like to see it.
I am sure I have given you this link before but i will do your work for you. I am taking off for my office now but I will look it up when I get there, however if you really have an interest go to his website it's there!
Obama took an active role in the Senate's drive for improved border security and immigration reform. In 2005, he cosponsored the "Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act" introduced by Republican John McCain of Arizona.[53] He later added three amendments to the "Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act", which passed the Senate in May 2006, but failed to gain majority support in the House of Representatives.[54] In September 2006, Obama supported a related bill, the Secure Fence Act, authorizing construction of fencing and other security improvements along the United States;Mexico border.[55] President Bush signed the Secure Fence Act into law in October 2006, calling it "an important step toward immigration reform."[56]

Did I miss something? Weren't you a part of the lynch mob with Obama's slip on "57 states"?
The neo-cons should reelect Bush... I'm sure the America stupid enough to elect G.W. Bush twice will be stupid enough to elect him a third time
