When government and special interests finance education and research, and the media is concentrated in a few large corporations dependent on government broadcast licenses, there is not much room left for truth.

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State."

The original quote comes from Hitler. I pray that those who apply that maxim here meet the same fate, and sooner than Hitler did.

As Lincoln said, "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time."

He forgot to mention Rich and Krugman in the good guys!

fta: "Does anyone think we will ever see a study from the American Enterprise Institute, for example, that is critical of Israel's policy toward the Palestinians, the military-industrial complex, or the offshoring of American jobs?"

      It is hard to imagine.

There is one point, I would like to remind of: It is also the consumer who decides! A newspaper with a competent and critic columnist will have the readers it merits, and be it on the long run ...

I think what is being pointed out is that the consumer may be drawn to what they want to hear versus the truth. It also supports your comment.

          As Pete Sinfield once wrote:

The Christmas we get we deserve.

"In America, money, not truth, has the power."

This statement is mostly true but sometimes truth trumps money by revolt whether violent or peaceful.
