McClellan under oath: I Dunno »
Posted By pc25 3 months, 3 weeks ago in NewsWell, I'm sure Congress feels like they accomplished something today with their interrogation of former White House press secretary Scott McClellan. After making a series of inflated allegations in his memoirs, What Happened, he told Congress that he really doesn't know what happened

after weeks of eager anticipation Scott McClellan testified today that George Bush didn't know about about any efford to leak Valerie Plame's identity to the press......and McClellan doesn't know anything about anybody else's efforts, either
FTA
"Still, Congress got to waste yet another day on yet another hearing into the Bush administration, rather than do something useful like ending the moratorium on off-shore drilling or looking into Countrywide's sweetheart deals for Barbara Boxer, Chris Dodd, and Kent Dorgan. Gossip trumps policy once again."

After a couple days denial, and proof positive the crooked politicians knew the deal was a good one, they agreed that that was true. How many times does a Democrat have to say, I didn't know a thing about it (whatever It is at the time), and then come clean. Don't lie, and they don't have to look so stupid later.

Barbara Boxer again?
Was she the one that was using the house bank to lauder money?
Take 10K and buy 10K in stamps then 2 days later return $9999.00 in stamps for cash?
Or was she the one floating checks? Check kitting?

Nevertheless, it now appears that the person most responsible for the end of Ms. Plame's CIA career is Mr. Wilson. Mr. Wilson chose to go public with an explosive charge, claiming â;; falsely, as it turned out â;; that he had debunked reports of Iraqi uranium-shopping in Niger and that his report had circulated to senior administration officials.

He ought to have expected that both those officials and journalists such as Mr. Novak would ask why a retired ambassador would have been sent on such a mission and that the answer would point to his wife. He diverted responsibility from himself and his false charges by claiming that President Bush's closest aides had engaged in an illegal conspiracy. It's unfortunate that so many people took him seriously.

That's all that was in his book, too. The guy doesn't know anything, he just made crap up fom what sources like the HuffPost "claim" happened. What a waste of Congressional time and taxpayer money.

It is one thing to write a book in anger, and make silly statements that you know you won't be sued for later. It is quite another to have a stupid Congress with money, and time on their slimey little hands, and have you tell your story under oath. Totally different story, but McClellan made Congress look so stupid it is almost worth it.

This is a joke. McClellan is doing what a lot of dismissed politicos of both parties do - he's making money by ripping his former bosses and associates. Just like when certain clownboys were attacking Bill over speculation (at best), I dismiss McClellan's Falwellian unsubstantiated and often self-contradictory gibberish.

"U.S. President George W. Bush did not know about a White House effort to leak the identity of a CIA agent but tried to protect staffers who were involved in one of the biggest scandals of his administration, former Bush spokesman Scott McClellan told Congress on Friday."
The dems must be so disappointed.

""McClellan said he did not think Bush was involved in a 2003 effort to blow the cover of CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson, whose husband had accused the administration of twisting intelligence to justify the Iraq war."

Now this just galls me.
When Exactly did he make this claim?
Cause he's on record as of February 6, 2003; Page B17 latimes
"There is now no incentive for Hussein to comply with the inspectors or to refrain from using weapons of mass destruction to defend himself if the United States comes after him. And he will use them; we should be under no illusion about that."

We invaded March 20th 2003, this was what 47 days before the invasion? Sure sounds like Joes a say they got WMDs and will use them.

BILL MOYERS: President Bush's recent speech to the American Enterprise Institute, he said, let me quote it to you. "The danger posed by Saddam Hussein and his weapons cannot be ignored or wished away." You agree with that?
JOE WILSON: I agree with that. Sure.
BILL MOYERS: "The danger must be confronted." You agree with that? "We would hope that the Iraqi regime will meet the demands of the United Nations and disarm fully and peacefully. If it does not, we are prepared to disarm Iraq by force.
JOE WILSON: I agree with that. Sure. The President goes on to say in that speech, as he did in the State of the Union Address, is we will liberate Iraq from a brutal dictator. All of which is true.
Joseph Wilson, During an interview with Bill Moyers February 28, 2003
Feb 28th, 20 days before the invasion. Not only is Joey reaffirming that Saddam HAS WMD's he is also stating that the mission is to remove Saddam!

Vice President Dick Cheney's involvement in the leak might have been greater, McClellan said.
"I do not think the president in any way had knowledge about it," McClellan told lawmakers. "In terms of the vice president, I do not know. There is a lot of suspicion there.""
But no facts. McClellen doesn't know any more about it than the average left-wing blogger thwacking away at his keyboard in his mommy's basement.

"Neither does he have any evidence of Cheney's supposed involvement. "There is a lot of suspicion there" can describe just about every crackpot theory ever floated. There's a lot of suspicion that George Bush planted bombs in the World Trade Center so they would collapse when remote-controlled jumbo aircraft hit the buildings, just as he spirited away the passengers and crew on the four flights so he could take them to a remote island and turn them into zombies. The suspicion doesn't make it true. Usually that takes evidence, and apparently McClellan has none."
How many democrats shelled out money for Scotty's piece of crap book? Bet you feel like an idiot now.
You got played.

This has been a recurring theme ever sinde Dan Rather made up fake documents to try and bolster gossip about Bush.
He got fired.

Well, I hate to be the wet blanket at the party, but I'm thinking back to an earlier post, "What Makes you Proud To Be An American?" And my response was, in part, that America is a transparent society, that we air our dirty laundry in public unlike, say, China, where it takes massive destruction to discover the government is cutting corners on public works projects.
It wasn't just Democrats who were out for blood I'm afraid, or wasting time. Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King said what I consider to be as un-American a statement as I've recently read from an elected official.
He said, "From an integrity standpoint, could you not have taken some of this to the grave with you and done this country a favor?"
Done the country a FAVOR? No, Mr. King, I'd just as soon not have our government or governmental officials "keep their mouths shut" if they believe something wrong is going on. If I were to criticize McClellan it would be in not speaking up even sooner.

But he didn't say anything. I agree with you about the Iowa rep.'s comment, if there was something bad going on and Scotty knew, he should have spoken up. But he's got nothing. He wrote a book based on his suspicions and assumptions, which are the same ones held by many on the left. The problem is, he has no facts to back up anything. I know it's hard for some people to admit, because they hate Bush so very much, but at some point they need to face it: Maybe they're wrong.

To some extent I have to agree with you.
"Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King said what I consider to be as un-American a statement as I've recently read from an elected official.
He said, "From an integrity standpoint, could you not have taken some of this to the grave with you and done this country a favor?""
Id have to give him the Jacka$$ award for that statement.
I had a flashback to boot camp, a question was asked (it had no real answer) designed to get a response of "I think", "I believe", "I feel"
To which the DI (goes ballistic) I DON'T GIVE A Flock what you think, believe, or feel
WHAT THE FLOCK DO YOU KNOW!.
That would have been appropriate question for Scotty.

"Scott McClellan: An idiot or a liar?
Scott McClellan, former White House press secretary, appeared in an interview Thursday evening with Katie Couric on the CBS Evening News. Couric deserves credit for asking him some tough questions.
One wonders if some White House reporters who saw the interview wanted to leap through the TV screen and throttle Mr. McClellan, who seems to have a vague acquaintance with the concept of truth.
Here's the portion of the interview that angered me enough to actually talk back to the TV set:
Katie Couric: Weren't you the ultimate complicit enabler, though? I asked a tough question before the Iraq War and you personally called an executive at NBC News and you threatened to deny access to us.
McClellan: I did?
Couric: Yes, you did, once the war began.
McClellan: Me personally? I don't, I don't remember that."
(continued)

"Couric: But did you strong-arm people into not questioning the administration?
McClellan: My style usually wasn't that way.
Couric: Well, it was you who made the call.
McClellan: I just, I just don't remember that. That may be but I certainly don't remember that incident. In terms of my style of working with reporters, it was usually straightforward when we were dealing with each other; I think I had that reputation with White House reporters. I just don't recall that specific incident..
How convenient for McClellan to forget whether he made such a heavy-handed attempt to muzzle NBC News. Does he really expect viewers to accept that explanation? He's either an idiot, shameless or a flat out liar. The evidence suggests he's all three."

"Osnos said McClellan just needed editorial guidance to tell the story he wanted to tell all along.
"First we had to ascertain what kind of book he wanted to write," said Osnos, a former Washington Post reporter and editor. "We are journalists, independent-minded publishers. We weren't interested in a book that was just a defense of the Bush administration."
Poor little Scotty. He shouldn't have been trying to play with the big boys.

I think Mark Twain had a saying that applies to Scott and the DC politicos.
"It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt."
No doubt.

So am I to believe that Scotty wrote fiction and made millions doing so, but called it fact during the days leading upto when under oath he backtracks?
Sounds like he wanted to cash in and this was his gravy train. For that, he should have to refund all proceeds from the book for having lied about what he knew...
