At least 55 percent of American voters this fall will mark their choice for president on paper ballots that will then be read and tabulated by optical scanning devices - nearly double the percentage in 2000, according to Virginia-based Election Data Services, a consulting firm that has been tracking voting technology since 1980.
Electronic touch-screen voting will decline for the first time in eight years, and punchcard ballots, once used by nearly one-third of the electorate, will be used in only 12 counties in Idaho.

You are dealing with an electorate that sometimes cannot read, or write, don't know the language, in a downtown area of Chicago they are alcoholics, and drug addicts. They are only in the ballot box for the $5. street money Democrats hand out. Ordinary people, able to read, and write, who are not pulled for the local mental wards can vote just fine. I hope we don't have to listen yet another election of the Democrats whinning about how their vote didn't count again. They have had almost 8 years to learn how to cast a legal vote.

The electronic voting machines are too easy to hack. There is no reason that the machines cannot print a voting receipt for each voter as well as a roll of paper that stays in the machine just like a cash register does. This allows the convenience of electronic voting as well as a paper trail.

No, I don't have stock in Diebold.
Let's all be green. Why go backwards and destroy trees and waste energy to produce, distribute, and dispose of all that paper? We need to be responsible and we need to care for the planet on which we live.
What is more important? Political manuevering or the Planet Earth?

You can get your pre-printed paper ballots at:
www.diebol...
If you wish to vote for a Democrat, simply erase* the Republican check mark and lightly check the Democrat box using a #2 soft lead pencil. If you show any hesitancy in your check mark, don't worry, Diebold will conveniently switch your vote back to the Republican candidate. Don't forget to sign your ballot!**
*Note: Any erase marks will invalidate ballot.
**Note: Black voters must include 3 forms of ID, proof of residency, and DNA sample. Please be sure to return your ballots no earlier than November 10.

paper ballots way better than some touch screen but the optical scanner ruins the guarentee of having an accurate count...the scanners can be programmed just like the touch screens
or if the numbers dont work out they can always "manuelly ovr ride the central tabulator" as jeanie deans palm beach video shows...in other words ,doesnt matter what u put in they gonna tell u the result they want
i think at LEAST the presidential election should be on paper and hand counted locally and preferabley on camera.....if thats too much trouble every four years maybe we do deserve what we get
