Is Obama turning out to be just another politician? »
Posted By cosmogenium 3 months, 2 weeks ago in NewsPresidential candidates often tack toward the center after securing their party's nominations. But all this tactical repositioning by Obama suggests that he's a more complex, pragmatic and arguably more opportunistic politician than the fresh face of "change we can believe in" that he presented during the primary season.

I really hope that the last few days turn out to be a glitch and not the rule for the future of this campaign and the country. Have we set our sights too high? Should we cut the man some slack, knowing that to get elected in this country isn't the straightforward process we would like it to be? I would rather Barack stick to his avowed principles and not waiver from the message of his primary campaign. Why can't he do this? Would doing so lose the election or win it?

What do you think? I am sorry. I wish we could find people of quality character to run for public office. People who wouldn't lie, who truly believed the words they speak, but those people do not exist. Politicians, by their own admittion, will lie, and flip-flop, and say, and do anything for votes. It is the nature of the job. Our job is to find the ones who are the least phony, most trustworthy, and without too many character flaws. It isn't easy when every other day they are saying, and doing different things.

I don't think it's possible. You can't survive the rigor of the campaign unless you get at least close to their playing field. Is it sad, yes. We are just too far gone to get it back. It would take more than strong character to stay out of the mud. It should be the exception, not the norm.

It is a well known fact that every candidate in every political race says what the group they are speaking to wants to hear. I believe once I heard otherwise and it was the late Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone. He couldn't do what everyone else did, or how they did it. He got angry in public and showed emotional weakness as well. He was real. Too bad his name hasn't come up during all the talk of how I wouldn't have voted to authorize the war if I had voted talk goes on and on. Paul Wellstone said NO and then he died.
