Everytime this man screws up it is either he didn't say what the sweaty masses thought the Great One said, or he is being quoted out of context. It is never his fault. Or maybe he is changing his opinions on so many issue in an attempt to appear more centrist that he can't keep up with his own ideas.

But Obama's main message was the government's duty to address what he said are "moral problems" â;; such as war, poverty, joblessness, homelessness, violent streets and crumbling schools â;; and to employ religious institutions to do it.

On Thursday in North Dakota, Obama said that "I'll ... continue to refine my policy" on Iraq after an upcoming trip there. With a promise to end the war the central premise of his candidacy, the Obama campaign has struggled over the past two days to push back against Republicans and others who say his recent statement could be a softening or change in policy.
Obama has always said his promise to end the war would require consultations with military commanders and, possibly, flexibility.

Before leaving Montana, Obama spoke via satellite to a conference of the National Education Association, the largest teachers union.http...">http://www.upi.com/Top_News/2008/07/05/Teachers...
WASHINGTON, July 5 (UPI) -- Barack Obama got a few boos Saturday when he told the National Education Association convention in Washington he supports merit pay.
The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee spoke by video link from Butte, Mont., where he spent the Fourth of July. The response to his speech was generally enthusiastic from a union that has already endorsed him, USA Today reported.
"I'm tired of hearing teachers blamed for our problems," Obama said. "I want to lead a new era of mutual responsibility in education."

But the NEA delegates were less enthusiastic when Obama listed problems such as the high U.S. dropout rate, poor scores in math and science, and the millions of students reading below grade level. Some delegates booed when Obama said teachers should get additional pay for teaching in tough schools, mentoring students or acquiring additional skills.
"In some places we've already seen that it's possible to find new ways to increase teacher pay that are developed with teachers, not imposed on teachers," he said, to more boos.

This is what is known as moving to the center for the general election.
Both candidates will do it in fact are already doing it.
I would argue Obama is correct to avoid promising the troops will be pulled out regardless of the situation on the ground.
It would be irresponsible especially now with the oil speculators more nervous than ever.
The bottom line is no matter who is elected those troops will be there for much longer than alot of Liberals want.

mm - Barack Obama's Plan
Judgment You Can Trust
As a candidate for the United States Senate in 2002, Obama put his political career on the line to oppose going to war in Iraq, and warned of "an occupation of undetermined length, with undetermined costs, and undetermined consequences." Obama has been a consistent, principled and vocal opponent of the war in Iraq.
* In 2003 and 2004, he spoke out against the war on the campaign trail;
* In 2005, he called for a phased withdrawal of our troops;
* In 2006, he called for a timetable to remove our troops, a political solution within Iraq, and aggressive diplomacy with all of Iraq's neighbors;
* In January 2007, he introduced legislation in the Senate to remove all of our combat troops from Iraq by March 2008.
* In September 2007, he laid out a detailed plan for how he will end the war as presiden

Bringing Our Troops Home
Obama will immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq.
He will remove one to two combat brigades each month, and have all of our combat brigades out of Iraq within 16 months. Obama will make it clear that we will not build any permanent bases in Iraq. He will keep some troops in Iraq to protect our embassy and diplomats; if al Qaeda attempts to build a base within Iraq, he will keep troops in Iraq or elsewhere in the region to carry out targeted strikes on al Qaeda.

Barak Hussein Obama was an Illinois State Senator for 8 years before he ran for the U S Senate. Never once did he address Chicago's poverty, homelessness, violent streets, or crumbling schools. Now he wants us to believe he has a plan. We cannot believe anything this guy says. He will say anything to pick up a few votes. Study his record, what he has done, not what he swears he can do.

People should study your record before they believe even one word you say...you are one of the scum who spread the lie that he is a muslim while at the same time criticizing his christian pastor.
And BTW-we are still waiting for the proof you claim to have that al-qaida set the California wildfires...every word from your mouth is a lie.

mnt - why did you bring up muslim???
why did you bring up al-quaida??
How about answering this: why didn't Obama address Chicago's poverty, homelessness, violent streets, or crumbling schools?
Looks like you don't like Obama for what he really is - you just like to spin with the words Muslim and al-qaida - I'll have to check moveon.org and see if this is their latest campaign approach.

Barak Hussein Obama was registered under the nameBarry Soetoro, serial number 203, and entered Franciscan Asisi Primary School on January 1, 1968. He sat in class 1B. Barrys religion was listed as Islam. He also attended prayers with his step father at a nearby Mosque. That makes the guy a Muslim. You tell me why he is lying about it. He ad to know it would be discovered. Maybe you don't believe the California fires are set. Tell me why there are more, and more every year. I don't have to prove a thing to you. You are irrelevant.

What's your point? Obama can't be trusted cause he'll change his mind or just tell people what they want to hear? I know that's the RNC's strategy but people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks Klarrisa.
Afterall, the BIGGEST flip-flop of whale on the beach proportion has to be Honest John and torture right?
Please....Obama has to deal with the spilt milk in the ME. At least we all know he knew it was a bad idea from the start where as your guy seems to think it was genius!

Sen Obama will not have to deal with anything. He is unelectable. With all the problems he says we have, the war, the economy he can't break 50% in the polls in this the "year of the Democrat?" He is losing the Jewish vote, the blue collar vote, and Hillarys supporters. He is copying all of President Bush's ideas. You would think he is running for President Bush's third term. "I will talk to my Generals," Faith based inititives, loves NAFTA now, loves the 2nd amendment. What a gold plated Phony.

Ani you are associating yourself with the 10% of Americans who probably can't spell Muslim much less know who is and is not one.
And the more you post, the more I believe that's appropriate!
