That's probably because the American usage of liberal is different from the rest of the world, by and large. Most of the world, excluding Canada and the UK (to an extent; example are the Liberal Democrats) I believe, consider the word liberal in the sense of classical liberalism. Classical liberalism favors free market economics and a strong belief in civil liberties... thus, the liberals of New Zealand will deregulate.

Sometimes you just want to discard every card in your hand and start over.
If I was a conservative I would prefer Obama to win; he will inherit the wind sown with tornado seed the last 8 years.
Conservatives have always been better at oposition than at rule anyway.
