In a speech at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People's annual convention in Cincinnati, Mr. Paterson also suggested that the defeat of Senator Obama by Senator McCain in the presidential contest would be a victory for racism.

Yes, nothing else matters but racism. Not the paper-thin resume. Not the lack of a continuous philosophy. Not the ties to extremism. If I choose to vote for someone else, I'm a racist? Please.

The article said "implied". We'll have to hear more from Mr. Paterson to see if he is a racist. This would be the worst kind of talk for this election, branding people's votes "racist".

This sounds like a case of retooled McCarthyism.

Now instead of a Commie behind every rock there is a racist.

The basic propaganda of fear, knee-jerk accusations and pandering to a preceived social guilt nothing more.

Yep. Nothing new here. It's the same reason every city in America suddenly has to re-name one of their streets "Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.". Why not just call it "White Man's Guilt Street"?

And if for some reason, since Obama is not attracting that many Democrats to his short V P list, he should choose Hillary for veep, and you don't vote Democrat, it will be because you are a racist, sexist, homophobe. Sorry, Obamas very inept resume is enough to not get my vote. Throw in his ties to Rashid Khalidi, William Ayers, Bernadine Dorhn, his bomber buddies. sprinkle on some Rev Wright cursing, and damning my country, and he has lost my vote, and the votes of the whole family, including the Democrat members.

"he has lost my vote, and the votes of the whole family, including the Democrat members."

Same here. And I am not racist or sexist. I've said it before and I'll say it again (beating a dead horse here) - my choice for our next president all along has been Condoleezza Rice, a black woman. Why is it she doesn't have cursing Reverends, dubious characters and shady dealings in her past? Why do I never see the race or the gender card being played when it comes to her? She has a resume a mile long and an engaging, intelligent air about her. She would do more to erase the racial and gender divide in this country than anyone else out there - simply by doing her job in a dignified, rational, intelligent manner.

Obama is arrogant, divisive, shady and worst of all, a rookie. The stakes are too high to have this jive turkey grinning his way into the White House.

The Democratic Party really blew it with this guy.

Yeah, yawn, and ho hum. We knew some liberal democrat would get around to saying this didn't we? Haven't we also been told right here on Propeller that we'd better be careful about making jokes about Obama because if we step over the line we will be sorry. Yeah, this is going to make me change my mind.

Gov. Paterson is the racist he's voting for Obama because they are both black. Racism and identity polotics appears to be what he's about.

there is also a sense of guilt tripping - if Blacks don't vote for Obama they are . . . . . .

Gov. Paterson has little experience on the national stage (in fact, he has little experience as Governor of New York) and he is perhaps too enamored with the idea that people will now listen to him. He still has to learn that with his new visibility and his novel ability to command an audience comes a corresponding obligation to speak thoughtfully and to deliver a message worth hearing.

Will racism deny Barack Obama the Presidency? I think not. While there are certainly some people for whom racism is THE determining factor in their choice between two candidates, it has been a full forty years since the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and the American people have largely changed their minds on the issue of race and are now willing to accept a leader who offers the best prospects for a strong, secure, and prosperous future. If Obama loses, race may be a factor, but it will not be the central factor. (cont)

Politicians in both parties seek to use any and every topic to their advantage. Gov. Paterson probably thought that he was helping Sen. Obama when he made his comments. But he helped no one, not even himself.

I invite Propeller members of all political persuasions tyo put race aside this fall, and to focus instead on the challenges our nation faces. We are fighting against forces which would destroy us and destroy our way of life on many fronts. We should be united in our opposition to these forces, but we must also discuss whether or not the course that the nation currently pursues in that struggle is the most effective way to overcome them. In that discussion, race is immaterial. (cont)

Sounds to me like Paterson was doing what politicians do - pander to their audiences by telling the audience what they want to hear. What the NAACP wanted from Paterson was affirmation as a legitimate African American. He did it by depicting himself as a victim of a racist society. And he delivered not only himself but Obama too. Funny that he was a Hillary supporter, though.

The NAACP has a long and storied history, but currently it is irrelevant to black people who are trying to better themselves. The NAACP's declining membership rolls and financial backing confirm this. Why join an organization that is trapped in the bitter past if you're looking forward to a brighter day?

So then every Democrat who voted for Obama in the primaries was a sexist. Didn't Hillary deserve to win based upon the fact that she too was a minority. If that is Obama's only qualification for being elected, ( and it appears that is the case, based upon his platform), then we should make a law that states that if a minority is running for elected office, he should recieve preferences and get a helping hand. Obama needs the help of the US government. He needs laws passed that will make things equal.

In other words, Paterson is stating that because Obama is black, (half black, actually), then he needs to have assistance in getting elected because the cards are stacked against him due to color.

If that is true, then Republicans should hurry up and get Rice on the ticket. She has the distinction of being not only a full on black, but the added bonus of being a female. How is a black female ever going to amount to anything without the government stepping in?

Let's be realistic here, shall we? It is a fact that the government helps minorities and females get an even footing in this great country of ours. So Obama should recieve a weighted vote. Because he is black, people won't vote for him. That is Paterson's point. But, as I recall, history stated that people wouldn't vote for Kennedy because he was Catholic. So then how did he get elected?

No black, or even worse black female can get an even break in this country. The odds are stacked against them. If you don't beleive me, I have proof. There was a show on Oprah that showed how black women in this country can't make a sucess of themselves, no matter what. If it was on Oprah, it has to be true.

Here is the plan, but don't tell anyone too soon, Congress will pass a law in late September that gives black candidates a weighted vote. This is to make elections fair and equal.

Now here is the great part. Condoleeza Rice will be a write in candidate. heh heh, it is just too simple.

Paterson really needs to get his head out of his a$$ and see the world for what it is.

If Obama loses, it is because there is a God and he is watching out for the good citizens of the USA.
