It sounds logical when the Dems say to drill on the 68 million acres you already have leased. Problem is, the majority of that land is not accessible, or the oil is so far down, that the cost would be prohibitive. OMG if I hear one more idiot say that the oil produced would only be a "Drop in the bucket", I'm gonna hurl!

...please hurl, for your sake and ours!
Did you also forget that we have had no increase in processing/refining capability in 32 years, and we're at peak processing now... so, no short term solution other than grabbing/controlling the speculators unleashed by a lack of government control by the bushies which is the current bill of the Dems!
Then the former repug Congress also threw out energy regulation too.. since their bill was written by the oil industry lobbyists so Hastert could declare only a 4 day work week for the House!

If the majority of that land is not accessible, or the oil so far down -- why did they lease it? Please. Typical garbage.
As for it being a drop in the bucket. Well. It'd be 1/10th of 1% of the total oil produced in the world. How much of an impact do you think 1/10th of 1% increase in oil production worldwide is going to have?
That's right. None.

Typical garbage.
It's the oil companies' turns to act. To act on the millions upon millions of acres they already have been given rights to but don't 'explore' or drill on.
Congress should act to improve investment in alternative energies including tax breaks for those willing to invest in such development and investigation.
Bush should act on taking his head out of his ass.

Hey, the repugs already defeated a dem bill to tax the record big oil profits and put this tax to alternatives! How stupid can you be? How many times do you have to be proven that Dumya only gives us lies and deceptions, typical of the repug party ever since Nixon, or at least since Newt's Contact With America lies!

The biggest obstacle to drilling is the state, local and federal bureaucracy. Because of all of the permits and environmental studies, not to mention court challenges by environmentalist, what used to be a 5 yr lease is now a 10 yr lease with no guarantee you will even find oil. I find it hard to believe we are the only country with pristine beaches and land that is so environmentally sensitive that we cannot use our own natural resources.
